The call ended, but I was still staring at my phone. I checked the call history to make sure what had just happened was real and not some nightmare. It was true. Ardent had called, but it wasn't him I spoke to. It was a woman. She introduced herself as Ally, and she said she was his wife.
Several minutes passed. Half of my mind was hoping he would call back to take it all back—to say it was just a prank, that my boyfriend was actually single, that he loved me, and that he was going to make me his only wife.
