Sean's POV
Just as the morning light began to shine through the curtains, I felt her shift beside me. Her face looked like the Goddess herself blessed her. I couldn't believe she opened up to me like she did last night.
Out of all the pain I have felt throughout my life, knowing I would end up here with her makes it all worth it. Losing my parents years ago put me in a dark place. I wanted to take my anger out on the world around me. And I did. So much so that I now have an empire kings and queens envy. My pack holds majority shares in most of the fortune fifty companies, our territory stretches over two thousand miles wide and deep, and we have numerous trade agreements that favor us, meant to demolish our competition from the inside.
But now... Now my priority is to make sure Ryley is safe.
She pops up next to me like a whack-a-mole, "Good morning handsome" as she pecks a quick kiss, "How about we get the day started hmm?"
What in the world is going on? Yesterday she was so ready to leave. Now, it's like she's been here her entire life. She's comfortable.
"Absolutely sleeping beauty. Are you hungry?"
"I think I could eat a small herd of sheep by myself"
"Oh then you will love the chow hall."
"Chow hall?? Sir this isn't the military... is it?"
"No it's not the military. That's just what we have always called it. We can rename it if you want... but that's an awfully small thing to change."
As we headed down to get breakfast, Clyde and his mate Carrissa ran into us.
"Mornin' Alpha, who do you have here?" Carrissa asked as she smiled at Ryley.
"This is Ryley, my mate" I say as I pull down my shirts collar to reveal the mark she gave me less than twelve hours ago, still fresh.
"Oohhh how exciting! Ryley, after breakfast would you like me to show you around? The pack house alone is massive. It can be pretty intimidating when you first start wandering around."
"Yes please." Ryley said as she started to shuffle behind me. Is she just nervous or does she have social anxiety?
"Great! I have a feeling we will be good friends. After all, our mates are basically brothers."
And with that, the four of us headed down.
As we approached the chow hall, the smell of fresh baked bread, bacon, eggs, and my personal favorite, waffles, filled the air. Our chefs Mr. and Mrs. Krauft sure does know how to put together a spread.
The hall was packed. As we walked in, everyone stopped to stare at Ryley. The whispers did not evade me. Although it chaps my ass being stared at, I almost expected it. Not a single pack member expected this. Hell not even myself expected it.
Ryley accompanied me to pick out what we wanted. As I began to load my plate to the brim, she stood there looking around, tears welling in her eyes.
"Honey, what's wrong?"
"I've never had fresh eggs, or waffles, or really anything fresh. I can't tell if the smell is good or disgusting it's so strong."
"Here... try this." as I put a single scoop of scrambled eggs on her plate with cheese, a single waffle, and a few strips of bacon. "If you don't like it, you don't have to eat it."
She just looks at her plate "Okay...".
As we sat down to eat, Clyde and Carrissa joined us again.
She ate in silence, almost like she was afraid to say the wrong thing. Myself, Clyde, and Carrissa kept making small talk to fill the air with something. We mentioned the trade agreement Blue Haze Moon pack proposed, and her body went stiff.
"I'm sorry I'm not very hungry anymore. I think I'm going to head back to my room" as she abruptly stood and walked away.
The alpha in me was furious. Who just abruptly leaves like that? However, I know that something here is not right.
"Let me go check on her" I said to Clyde and Carrissa as I stood as well. "I think she may have more going on than we thought..."
They nodded in agreement and scraped our leftovers into their plates. They sure were made for each other, they both have bottomless pits for stomachs.
As I reached Ryley's room, I hear her completely breaking down, full on sobbing. As I opened the door she turned to face me, "I'm sorry I didn't mean to be rude...."
I closed the door behind me, slowly walking towards her and pulling her into me.
"I just didn't expect any of this. I have never had that many people stare at me like that. And the food... and then Blue Haze Moon..." by this point she's was sobbing so hard her entire body was trembling.
All I could do was hold her. Let her get everything out. Who knows how long she has been holding everything in.
"Take the time you need. I'm right here and I'm not going anywhere." I said, almost in a whisper, holding her up as if she might collapse right in front of me.
After a few minutes she began to calm down. I pulled back to look at her, and even in her worst moments, she still looks like a Goddess.
Why on earth did the Moon Goddess herself choose me to be her mate? She is perfect in every way.
