Her Arrival

955 Words
The sound of bushes brushing against my legs as they carried me as fast as they could was all I could hear. The men chasing me wanted me dead, there was no doubt about that. It felt like I was running for days. The constant battle of keeping my head on a swivel and running took every last bit of energy I had. My name is Ryley Dubb, and I am on the run from my alpha. As if it couldn't get any worse, I tripped on a log that felt like it was made of steel... maybe it was. I came crashing forward, realizing I had indeed broken at least 3 toes. My body froze the way one does when they feel the break before they feel the pain. Before I could get back on my feet *thwap* I was slapped across the face with what felt like Satan's hand. The searing burn made my eyes prickle with tears before I could stop them. "You should have faced the consequences little one" said Bruce, my Alphas Beta said in his deep tone. "Why have you always been so difficult?" he kept going, as he began circling me like the mutt he is circles their prey. "As much as I know Alex would love to have you back... I just don't think that's in your cards tonight darlin." My body let out an involuntary shiver at his words. One of two things is about to happen. He is either going to slowly kill me... and enjoy every second of it, or he is going to make me wish I was dead. I would rather take part in neither. Before I knew what I was doing, I was on my feet and back on the run. My foot burned with every step, but it was better than whatever Bruce had in store for me. With every step I wondered more and more where my feet were taking me. I was nearing the border of the Violet Moon Pack's territory. I'm not sure which would be worse, facing Bruce, or facing Alpha Sean if he listened to what this babbling i***t had to say. Violet Moon had a reputation no one dared to challenge. Alpha Sean was known to be cut throat beyond what anyone had seen before. They were once a peaceful pack. They never started wars over territory, they traded fairly, and treated the other packs with respect. That changed with Alpha Sean's parents, the former Alpha and Luna, died in a horrific freak accident. That's what everyone said anyways, no one knows what really happened. They went on a walk in the woods, as they did frequently, and were found with their chests ripped open. As I neared the border, I could hear Bruce and his men catching up to me. No matter how hard I pushed, I had nothing to push with. My legs gave out right as we crossed the border into the Violet Moon Pack. *stomp* *kick* *slap* Just as I thought it couldn't get any worse, Bruce, who at this point was beyond seeing red, shifted into his wolf Baxter. In less than 6 seconds, I realized this is where I end. This is where my story ends. Just as Baxter towers over me, I hear a gruesome growl come from what I can only describe as the largest, and somehow most sexy, wolf I have ever laid my blue eyes on. For the next 30 seconds all I could look at was Devin, Alpha Sean's wolf. Tall, muscular, jet black fur. I don't think it can get much better than this! Just as I catch myself eye f*****g him, I hear my wolf Jenny scream "MATE!!!" This must be a sick joke! In a mere 30 seconds my world has tilted from 'I'm going to die' to 'Mate search complete'. Is that even a real thing? It must be. Baxter knew he was in for it. I don't think I've seen him shift back to skin that fast in our entire lives. Sean was faster, stronger, and smelled so much better than Bruce. As Bruce's eyes went wide Sean wasted no time lunging at him. I knew what was about to happen. *cchhrnnch* Sean threw Bruce into the massive oak tree. Bruce didn't stand a chance and I am here for it! While Sean absolutely demolished Bruce, his men ran back like the b***h men they were. Our pack, the Blue Haze Moon Pack, have never been the best at fighting, and now I see why. As Sean did his work on Bruce, who at this point looked like he would rather dig his own hole, I began to feel a trickle run down my abdomen. Looking down I realized at some point I had been stabbed with a knife that must have been laced with Wolfsbane. Every second the pain ramped up to become agonizing. I tried to stop the bleeding, but it was no help. My only option was to lay there leaking what courage I had left in me. My vision went white, my chest felt heavy, and the next thing I knew everything was black. How much time passed, I couldn't tell you. The next thing I remember was smelling this wonderful woodsey, almost like pine but manlier, scent. It had to be him. Oak trees don't smell like pine. I opened my eyes just wide enough to see him. Staring down at me as if I was a flower that was actively wilting in his arms. He furrowed his brows, quickened his pace, then the lights went out again. Is this what all the rave is about with fates mates...
