“No please, take me instead!” Lila knelt down before Alexander black with tears trickling down her cheeks.

“I will be your wife. I am willing to do whatever you want. Please don't hurt my sister”

Lila pleaded more with teary eyes, holding Alex's feet who looked down on her, unfazed.

Alexander Black was dressed in a tailored suit, looking down at Lila's plea with disdain. The room was old and rickety, filled with faded memories and signs of struggle. His icy blue eyes scanned the living room, taking in the faded wallpaper and worn out furniture with a sneer. This was not the world he belonged to; it was a stark contrast to the luxury he knew.

Alex was known for his merciless and ruthless nature and was accustomed to getting everything he wanted and no one dared stand in his way. He has so many enemies and is very ruthless towards snitches and betrayals.

“If they did it once, they'd do it again” is his usual quote.

He was known to be ten steps ahead of his enemies.

“Let's beat them at their own game” was another of his quotes.

He kept his life extremely private and as such, his rivals had nothing to use against him.

At 27, he had managed to build vast empires and businesses that not even political powers could take down. But despite his ruthlessness, Alex is a very charming young man. He had the handsomeness anyone would dream of.

“Please big sis, don't let them take me away. He's gonna hurt me. I don't want him, I can't marry him” Eva cried out as she was taken to the car.

Alex continued glancing down at Lila without a hint of emotion.

“Alright. You want to replace her, then so be it.”

“You will go with me and if in a week's time, I don't get my money, you will marry me as an atonement for your fathers unpaid dept”

“I will do whatever you want sir. Just please release my sister. I shall willingly go with you” Lila pleaded with tears as she clinged onto Alex's feet.

“Bring her back!” Alex told his men in a commanding tone.

Lila obediently followed them to Alex's car without any rebuttal.

She looked back at Eva one last time

“I'll come back to you Eva, I promise” Eva's eyes flowed even harder at her sister's words, and she reached out as if trying to hold onto Lila.

As the car pulled away, lila pressed her palm against the windows with teary eyes. She felt a longing to touch her sister one last time, to assure her that everything is going to be okay.

“I will work hard to pay my father's debt and come back to Eva” she thought to herself.

Eva and Lila had been inseparable from childhood. Despite being a year older than Eva, they could both pass up as twins. They had always been resentful towards their father who had gambled everything they had. He even gambled the money for her mother's medical bills. Hence, the reason they lost their mother.

“Please can you let me go? I promise to pay back as soon as possible”. Lila said with teary eyes, wishing it could melt his icy cold heart.

“Your father's debt is not something you could pay back, even in the next ten years. And I can't wait that long,” Alex said with an unreadable expression.

He saw more potential in Lila but doesn't want to come straight. He chose Eva because he knew Lila would object to it and that would give him so much leverage over her.

“Please… Alex, I will pay back. I can't marry you. I have a boyfriend and I love him so much”

Lila thought about her boyfriend Julian who had left for further studies abroad. Although he hasn't reached out in a while, she still held onto the hopes that he will come back for her.

“Take her in one of the finest guest rooms” Alex instructed the maid as the car pulled over the mansion decorated with flowers and intricate stone works and turned to Lila.

“Make sure not to escape else, it will be triple your father's dept”

Lyla walked towards Alex and knelt down like she was given a punishment. She looked up at Alex with tears dripping down her cheeks

“Please Alex, I can't marry you. Let me be one of your domestic workers till the dept is cleared off. Just please don't make me your wife.”

“I am Alexander Black. I want what I want. Take her away”

Alex said, and walked away leaving Lila to the mercy of the servants.

“ Ma'am, please this way,” Gideon said gently.

Although Alex instructed for her to be taken away, he also signalled them to be careful with her and they knew better than to rough handle their master's supposed mistress.
