“Ma'am, this is for you” Felicia said, handing over a new dress to her.
Lila took the dress with a surprised expression.
“I didn't order this”
Mr Alex brought it for you.
Alex had arranged everything meticulously, ensuring lila felt the bell of the ball.
When Lila emerged from the bedroom in the beautiful emerald gown, Alex's breath caught in his throat.
The dress was a stunning floor length creation in a deep sapphire blue that complemented her figure perfectly. The fabric hugged her curves in the right places, flowing elegantly down to the floor and creating a soft train behind her; the neckline accentuated her collar bone, while the delicate lace details added a touch of sophistication.
Her eyes met Alex's sharp gaze as she descended the stairs. Turning to face her, his eyes widened in admiration.
“Wow!” Alex breathed, he hadn't seen such beauty before. He was always surrounded by women with lots of enhancement but these women couldn't measure up to Lila's natural endowment.
Lila took Alex's opened arms and they both walked to the car headed to the gala.
At the event, Alex wore his overly serious demeanor as he mingled with guests, keeping Lila within eyes reach.
The atmosphere became tense with Alex's presence.
Lila caught the tail end of some whispering conversation.
“Who is that woman with Alex black”
“It looks like they had a secret wedding”
“I think so, they're both wearing a ring”
The evening unfolded with Alex mingling with business partners not letting Lila leave his sight. She had never been to a place with so many rich and affluent people. Alex introduced her to various people and she could see the admiration in their eyes as they complemented her beauty.
A woman walked to Lila and immediately grabbed her by her hand, feeling the softness of her palm.
“It's nice to see you dear” she said and walked away without waiting for a response. Her suspicions were correct and she walked away feeling a sense of satisfaction.
The highlight of the evening came when the music shifted to a romantic waltz. Alex walked to Lila with a slight smile playing on his lips.
B“May I have this dance?”
With a smile, Lila nodded. Her heart raced as he led her to the center of the ballroom. They began to sway to the music. She had taken dance classes in college and she hates to admit that Alex was a good dancer. It felt like they were the only ones in the room as people's piercing gazes occasionally got to them.
Alex held her close, his hand resting on the small of her back while he gently clasped her other hand in his. Lila looked straight into his eyes and in that moment, the world around them faded away. His gaze was warm and inviting, and she could see depth of emotions reflecting back to her.
The music enveloped then, creating a cocoon of intimacy that made her feel warm and cherished.
“You look so beautiful tonight” Alex whispered, his voice barely audible over the music.
“I am really lucky to be your husband”
Lila continued dancing without a response to his compliment.
As they danced, Lila felt herself lost in the moment, surrendering to the rhythm of the music and the warmth of Alex's presence. They moved gracefully across the floor, and with each step, she felt her initial reservation melt away.
As they glided across the floor, lila felt a flutter of butterflies in her belly, an unexpected sensation that took her by surprise. She quickly dismissed the feeling, reminding herself that it wasn't possible to develop feelings for a man who had forced her into a marriage. It felt wrong. A betrayal of her own emotions.
She couldn't help but notice how handsome Alex was at that moment. The soft lightning in the ball room accentuated his strong features, casting gentle shadows across his chiselled jaw line. His dark hair was nearly styled, a few strands falling effortlessly across his forehead.
His eyes, a striking shade of deep blue, sparked with warmth as he looked down at her. They had an intensity that made Lila's heart rave_ eyes that seemed to see through the soul. He smiled in a way that revealed just a hint of his perfectly white teeth, making him even more captivating. His well defined cheek bones added a rigged charm to his appearance, giving him an air of sophistication and masculinity. The warmth radiating from his body only heightened her awareness of how close they are and she felt a flush creep up her cheeks as she caught herself studying him.
Just as quickly as those feelings bubbled up, Lila pushed it aside
“I can't let myself get carried away,” she thought to herself, forcing her mind to focus on the dance, rather than the man leading her. Yet, with every step, every sway, the butterflies in her belly seemed to flutter insistently. She felt torn between the desire to lean into the moment and the need to protect her heart.
“Stay focused Lila!” she silently childed herself.
Alex, sensing her inner turmoil, continued to lead in grace and confidence.
“Just enjoy the moment” he whispered, his voice soothing and warm that made her heart flutter even more.
After the dance, Alex was called to give his speech. He did so gracefully and officially introduced Lila as his wife. All eyes turned to Lila's direction. They had never seen Alex with a woman before. Introducing a woman not just as his girlfriend but wife, sent both envy and surprise across every one's face.
