6: Dead Cowboy (3)

339 Words
Simon set the Rorschach card down on his desk and stared at it. He put it back in the desk drawer and stared at his office wall. When Simon walked out of his office, Joe was just walking in the front door. Joe tossed his hat onto the hat rack. Tom leaned back in his chair. "Jewel all tucked in at home?” Joe nodded. "Glass of wine in hand, watching one of those old movies….” Tom stretched. "Has to be 'To Have and Have Not.' It's her favorite.” Simon sat on Tom's desk. "You said she predicted things? Like what?” Joe scratched his head. "That drugstore fire.” "And what about the mine collapse?" Tom yawned. Joe poured Tom a cup of coffee. "You're tiring me out, just watching you. She predicted those kids drowning in the creek." He poured a cup for himself. "You want a cup, Doc?” "Sure." He took a cup from Joe. "Those are all horrible tragedies! Why were you laughing before I saw her?” "The look on your face!" Tom laughed. He gulped down his coffee and wiped his mouth with the back of his hand. "So tell us, Doc. Who or what killed the dead cowboy?” "She said it could have been horses. Or the cowboy's ex-wife.” Joe and Tom looked at each other. "The only cowboys who don't have a pissed-off ex-wife are either single or dead," Joe said. "That leaves us Dawson, McCormick, Johnston, Mason, and Perry," Tom said, counting off the names on one hand. Both men stood up, pulled their guns out of their desk drawers, and put their hats on their heads. "Looks like its time for us to visit a few folks," Joe said. "See you a little later, Doc." He blew Irene a kiss. Irene stuck her tongue out at him. She could do that. They were married. Irene and Simon watched them walk out the front door and saunter down the street to their car.
