VoidBranwen sat with her arms wrapped around her knees, rocking, staring into space. She’d given up trying to count her sleeping and waking a long time ago, but her mind still felt more clear than usual.
She wanted to unwrap her arms and check her belly again, but that had become a problem.
Her flesh had passed rough and abraded a while back. Any time she unlocked her arms, her hands went right back to checking for signs of the baby.
As long as she wasn’t showing yet, she couldn’t have been here very long.

Now if she shifted too far, she could feel the raw skin against her thighs, like she’d burned herself somehow.
