Chapter 29 Seventeen Years AgoJohn turned his father’s sedate Mercedes toward light and open space, a welcome break from traffic and high rises on the east side of Glasgow. The music was a bit too loud and his friends a bit too rowdy, but John drove slowly, carefully. He was more worried about damaging the sedan he pretended to dislike than he wanted to admit. The truth was the car was only what he’d call sedate when John himself was behind the wheel. His father showed considerably less reserve unless John’s mother was along, and even less when John’s Aunt Annie joined them. Everyone in the Falconer family seemed to think John would grow out of his overly cautious driving ways with a bit more experience.
