Chapter 24 John walked away from Branwen and her grandmother, breathing in the cooler air outside the parlor, surprised at how difficult each step was. If he’d had his way, they would have stayed in their room all day. Preferably in bed. After all the stress and tension and fighting, he finally had her back. Not just her body, though that was exquisite. He wanted her again already. He told her that was when he was easiest, once he’d caught his breath but before he’d fully come to his senses. They both knew he was always easy. Today though, that was just a pleasant undercurrent. He finally had her heart again. The second Branwen stood in front of Elizabeth and he felt how tense she was—through her hand, her body, even her scent—the primitive creature inside him roared to full awareness
