CHAPTER SEVEN:FLAMES REMEMBER

513 Words
The Forest of Fire pulsed with life, each tree a pillar of memory buried deep inside. Ammie stood in the forest clearing, Kael beside her, the fire in her veins restless and untamed searching for a release within her. “Focus,” Kael urged, his voice steady ,become one with the power within you . “The flame is not chaos—it is memory. It will show you what you have lost, if you let it.” Ammie closed her eyes. The fire surged within her, spilling images into her mind like a forgotten record. She saw herself as a child, cradled in arms that smelled of smoke and cedar. A lullaby whispered in a language she had forgotten, its rhythm echoing like embers in her chest. Then darkness. A hand tearing her away, a veil closing, the ordinary world swallowing her whole. Her breath caught. “I remember…” Kael nodded. “The fire remembers everything. It is our bloodline. It will guide you.” He raised his own hands, flames coiling around his fingers like serpents. “Watch.” He shaped the fire into a blade, its edge sharp but fluid, then dissolved it into a shield that shimmered like molten glass. “Weapon. Protection. The flame obeys intent.” Ammie tried, her fire flaring wild. It lashed out, scorching the ground, nearly consuming her. Panic surged within her , but Kael’s hand steadied her wrist. “Do not fight it. Speak to it. It is part of you.It is who you are.” She inhaled, steadying her pulse. The fire bent, shrinking into her palms, then stretching outward. Slowly, it formed a sphere of light, pulsing like a heartbeat. Kael’s eyes glowed with pride. “Good. You are learning.” The forest whispered again, showing her fragments of her past: a mother’s tear‑streaked face, a father’s voice promising she would return, Kael’s own hand reaching for her as she was carried away into the unknown. Ammie’s chest ached with the weight of it. “I was meant to be here,” she whispered. “I was never ordinary.” Kael’s voice hardened. “And now you must prove it. The shadows will not wait. They already know the missing child has returned. They will come for you. For the power you posses.” The trees flared, casting long shadows that twisted into forms—creatures of ruin, eyes burning with hunger. Ammie’s fire pulsed, answering their challenge. Kael stepped back. “This is your trial. Show them you are flame. Show them you are the hope for our world.” Ammie lifted her hands, the fire blazing brighter, shaped now by her will. The shadows hissed, circling. She stood tall, her voice ringing through the forest: “I am Ammie. I am the missing child of the burning world. And I will not let either world fall.” The fire surged, consuming the clearing in light. The shadows shrieked and scattered, retreating into the depths. Kael smiled, fierce and proud. “You are ready to begin.”
