Upon arriving at the company, I noticed that the only presence in the reception area of my office was Marta. This was both a relief and disquieting. I looked at Marta, making the question about Cecilia's whereabouts evident in my gaze, but she seemed not to grasp the implicit message. I rolled my eyes in annoyance; after all, over the years, Marta had always shown remarkable efficiency, understanding my orders even when I didn't articulate them.
With a sigh, I asked directly:
“So, where is she?”
“She?” Marta replied with feigned innocence.
At that moment, my patience reached its limit. It was clear to me that Marta was trying to act oblivious, which only increased my stress. I got straight to the point:
“Where is Cecilia?”
The answer now was simple:
“Cecilia is working.”
