ALEXANDER POV Her eyes dropped the moment the words left my mouth, like something inside her simply gave up all at once. Then the tears came, quiet at first, almost like she was fighting them, but they didn't stop. They just kept falling, and somehow that hit harder than if she had screamed. "Why do you all think I want to throw myself at you?" she snapped, her voice trembling with the particular strain of anger and hurt existing in the same breath. "I'm not some desperate woman." She wiped her face quickly, but more tears replaced them before her hand had even dropped. Like she couldn't control it anymore. Like her body had made a decision her pride hadn't agreed to.
