Chapter Eighteen.  The relatively short hike was almost two hours later, and Safron felt as if every muscle in her body was about to fail her. They had walked in relative silence, but rather than be uncomfortable, she felt like the quite was wrapping around her like a warm blanket. She liked the space to think, to process her emotions. She did not like small talk, not now. She found it pointless, much like most things involved in interacting with people. She had once been chatty, happy, a social butterfly, much to Patricia, the girl who was supposed to be a sister to her, utter annoyance. She had hated Safron gaining any positive attention.
