Daniel's POV
I found Nathan after the meeting. "Where is she?"
"Who?" He knows exactly who.
"Nathan."
He sighs. "Her office. Probably packing. She submitted her resignation an hour ago."
My heart stops. "She what?"
"Said since the case is closed, it's time to move on." He met my eyes. "You have maybe ten minutes before she walks out that door."
I'm already moving. Down the hallway. Past confused employees. Into the elevator.
Three floors down. The doors open.
Her office door is ajar. Inside, I see boxes. Her laptop was already packed. The temporary workspace being erased like she was never here.
Like she never saved everything.
I knock. She looks up. And the expression on her face—exhaustion and resignation and something that looks like grief—nearly breaks me.
