I type the email three times before I finally hit send.
Subject: Resignation - Amelia Hart
Dear Human Resources,
Please accept this as my formal resignation from Sterling Holdings, effective two weeks from today…
My finger hovers over the mouse. Then I click.
The whoosh sound feels final.
Harper calls later. "Did you do it?" I had told her about the resignation plans earlier.
"Yes." I exhale. "It's done."
"How do you feel?"
"Like I'm jumping off a cliff." I stand and walk to my apartment window. "But also like I can breathe again."
"That's growth, babe."
We talk for a few more minutes before going off the line. She reminds me I’m strong. Capable. That this is the right choice.
I want to believe her.
