Danny wasn't aware that Patricia and Sandra will move in with them this morning.
“Good morning, ma'am. It's good to have you here,” Danny finally returned the same gesture but in a feigned tone.
He wore a pretentious smile to erase any negative thoughts in Patricia's head.
After the pleasantries, Declan assisted Patricia in moving in the other luggage before he got paid and drove off.
Sandra and Danny barely even spoke to each other. For every attempt they tried, Danny kept drifting away. He wishes there's a way he could discard Sandra without making it so obvious.
It's not their first time seeing each other. They've run into each other countless times. And during those periods, Danny has been a thorn in Sandra's flesh. He always seeks an opportunity to bully her.
“When do we begin the class?” Sandra rejuvenated the discourse just when everyone thought she was never going to talk about it anymore.
“Why do you really want to do this?” Benjamin asked out of curiosity.
He already distrusts the closeness that might exist between the step siblings. He is worried that Danny's recklessness could corrupt Sandra.
He would have preferred for Danny to hire a private tutor or figure it out himself.
Patricia was confused. She is the only one who doesn't understand what was being discussed in her absence.
And when she was told, she quickly approved the idea.
She's excited that Sandra is slowly coming out of her shell for the first time and hopes that the two can become good friends.
“So what do you say, Danny?” Benjamin seeks Danny's opinion.
"Not interested." Danny answered immediately. It didn't take him too long to come up with a decision. He would rather fail than depend on Sandra's individual brilliance to keep his position in the team.
He seemed to be the only one with the final verdict. Should he kick against the idea, his father won't even bother wasting his time to convince him to accept.
He never liked the idea from the onset. He is only hoping that Danny will turn Sandra down.
“I am in,” Danny changed his mind in a blink of an eye. He can't deny that he can't do this alone.
“I accept her to be my tutor since we'd be attending the same school and probably be in the same class,” he added.
Benjamin was disappointed. He expected another response from Danny. However, he tried not to make it so obvious.
Danny had no choice. He wouldn't have accepted Sandra to be his tutor if he had a different opinion about this.
He knew that was the only solution to keeping his position on the team and reviving his professional career.
______
Sandra and Danny's academic partnership forces proximity, late nights studying in shared spaces, and constant.
It also involved interactions under strict household rules and growing emotional vulnerability.
What started as a resentment evolved into intellectual respect and emotional connection. And that connection is dangerous.
Because the more Danny improves his academic status, he gradually pulls away from Stacy, his girlfriend.
As the tutoring session deepens, Sandra challenges Danny's ego and confronts his fear of losing his identity without baseball.
Danny began to prioritize discipline over parties and self-growth over his public image.
For the first time in his life, he envisioned a different version of himself that's not entirely defined by the game.
Their emotional intimacy intensified under the same roof. Almost kisses and lingering boundaries were dreams and closed.
Both resist the undeniable pull, as they are aware of the consequence I'd discovered.
“Are you cheating on me?” Stacy probed Danny after twenty minutes of conversation.
The question has been on her lips for a long time. She never wanted to ask him about it, but after observing the closeness between Danny and Sandra, she's convinced that they aren't just dating but secretly having s*x.
“Stacy?” Danny fumed as he stood up from the wooden chair.
“Of course not. I will never do anything to hurt you, and you know that,” he defended himself as though his life depended on it.
"Sandra has a boyfriend. Why do you think I'd wanna have anything to do with my sister?"
"Your step sister, Danny," Stacy snapped to set the record straight.
“Nah, I don't believe you,” Stacy doubts him.
She stood up, folded her arms, and glanced in the opposite direction. She just placed Danny in a hot seat.
He tries getting closer to her, but she shoves him aside. “Don't you dare come near me.”
“I need you to prove to me that you're not in a relationship with her,” Stacy makes her demand.
That's her first time having a conversation about Sandra with Danny. She never had a problem seeing Danny with Sandra.
Her hate and jealousy all started when Danny started spending more time with Sandra than any other person.
It wasn't just Stacy that was upset. Christopher, Danny's best friend, also shares the same sentiments.
