The Boy Is Mine

“She thinks we are in a romantic relationship,” Danny added. “She also believes I'm having s*x with you,” Danny's tone fades as he buttresses further. That's a very delicate part of the conversation, and he doesn't want a third party to eavesdrop on their conversation. “That's ridiculous.” Sandra shakes her in shock. She is still in denial. She is trying too hard to accept the truth. “How did it go?” Christopher asked Stacy after she returned with heavy eyes.” He can tell that she's been crying lately. Christopher wasn't alone. He was together with Jasper and Andrews, his other teammates. Christopher might be Danny's best friend, but his hate towards Danny can't be ignored. It all started when Danny started neglecting him to pay more attention to Sandra. He would rather not confront Danny about it, so he sent Stacy to do the dirty job. “The son of a b***h picked that w***e over me,” Stacy bemoaned. She just couldn't handle the tears dropping into her eyes. "I knew it!” Christopher fumed. He prepared his punch as though he wanted to hit Danny in the face. “She's taking Danny away from us. We have to do something about it. We can't let him win,” Jasper suggested. That's his first-ever contribution to the matter. He wasn't silent for a reason. He had been racking his brain for a solution, yet he still can't get it right. “I have a suggestion.” Christopher snapped his fingers after a thought swarmed across his mind. “What is it about?” Stacy leans forward. She nearly fractured her ankle while trying to get to Christopher. She will do anything to fight for Danny's love. She can't imagine herself losing Danny to Sandra, a girl she claims she is a thousand times better than. “I need you all to come closer,” Christopher summons everyone in his direction. He pulls away from them to go scan for the environment. He required an assurance that no one was approaching to hear what he had to say. “The coast is clear.” He returns to them and whispers the plan to their ears. “Holy grail,” Stacy screamed her lungs out. “Are you crazy?” “Cut the crap, Stacy." Christopher drops forward to seal her lips and prevent her shout from alerting passersby. “This is a very crazy plan. We might get arrested in the process. Is that what you wish for yourself right now?” Stacy protested. The plan is too risky for her to be involved in. She hasn't been arrested before, and she would rather not break that record today. “Do you still want to have Danny back, or would you rather give him up to a total stranger?” Christopher hurled an intrusive question at Stacy. A question that made her start counting her teeth with her tongue. Under normal circumstances, her response would have been a resounding “YES.” But now, she doesn't even know what she wants for herself anymore. “Let's do this.” Stacy finally decides after stalling for so long. Together, Stacy and the best friend orchestrate a plan to frighten Sandra enough to push her away. They hire someone to stage an “accident,” never intending serious harm, only removal. _____ During championship week, Sandra is intentionally pushed from a high campus ledge. Danny sees it happen. Without hesitation, he jumps to save her. He succeeds but tears his ligament in the process. He is sidelined for two critical games. The team loses both. Public backlash erupts. Rumors spread that he chose his step-sister over baseball. Scouts question his reliability. Political tensions strain family alliances. Sandra, consumed by guilt, distances herself. Stacy publicly positions herself at Danny's bedside, performing loyalty. Danny battles physical pain and a deeper crisis: if football is taken from him, who is he? His life hasn't remained the same since tearing his ligament. He can see life slowly fading away from his face, and he can't seem to do anything about it. He is gradually becoming a shadow of himself. He has forgotten what it feels like to be strong again. He has spent the last couple of months in the hospital, yet there's no progress. His case keeps getting worse. He is eager to return to the field of play again. Too bad, his injured legs have become a stumbling block. To worsen his condition, Sandra has cut ties with him. She hasn't visited Danny since he suffered that fatal accident. “I feel useless,” he said to himself after recalling the past. “I saved her life. I don't deserve to be treated like this,” he weeps profusely until he exhausts all the tears in his eyes. It's difficult for him to accept that Sandra will sideline him when he needs her the most. She isn't even responding to his texts and calls anymore. More like she had completely abandoned him to suffer. Ironically, the only person who has visited him on different occasions is Stacy. She's the last person he expects to see after the heated argument between them.
