Chapter 9

682 Words
"What's going on here?" Alex repeated, his eyes locked on Mrs. Jenkins. "How is Mr. Johnson involved, and what does Mr. Smith have to do with it?" Mrs. Jenkins looked like she was on the verge of breaking down, and Alex could see the tension building up inside her. But then, just as suddenly, her expression hardened again, and she stood up, her hands on her hips. "I think our conversation is over, Mr. Alex," she said, her voice cold. "And I think it would be best if you left now." Alex nodded, standing up and gathering his things. "Alright, Mrs. Jenkins," he said. "But I'm not giving up on this case. I'll find out what's going on, even if it means digging deeper." As he left Mrs. Jenkins' house, Alex couldn't shake off the feeling that he was missing something. He decided to pay a visit to Mr. Johnson and see if he could get any more information out of him. When he arrived at Mr. Johnson's office, he was greeted by a friendly receptionist who showed him to the conference room. Mr. Johnson was already there, sipping a cup of coffee and looking relaxed. "Ah, Alex," he said, standing up and extending his hand. "Thanks for coming. I'm getting a little anxious about this case." Alex nodded, taking a seat. "Don't worry, Mr. Johnson," he said. "I'm doing everything I can to get to the bottom of this. But I do have a few more questions for you." Mr. Johnson nodded, leaning forward. "Fire away," he said. Alex smiled, pulling out his notebook. "Let's start with the accident," he said. "Can you tell me more about what happened?" Mr. Johnson nodded, launching into a detailed description of the accident. Alex listened intently, taking notes and asking questions. But as the conversation went on, Alex couldn't shake off the feeling that Mr. Johnson was hiding something. He seemed nervous and on edge, and Alex could sense that he was holding back. "I think that's all for now, Mr. Johnson," Alex said, standing up and gathering his things. "But I'll be in touch soon. And in the meantime, I want you to think about something." Mr. Johnson looked up at him, curious. "What's that?" he asked. Alex smiled, his eyes locked on Mr. Johnson's. "I want you to think about why Mrs. Jenkins might have rear-ended you," he said. "And I want you to think about what might be motivating her to keep quiet about it." Mr. Johnson's expression changed, and for a moment, Alex saw a flash of fear in his eyes. But then, just as suddenly, it was gone, and Mr. Johnson was smiling again. "I'll think about it, Alex," he said. "And I'll be in touch soon." Alex nodded, leaving the office and wondering what he had just stumbled into. He couldn't shake off the feeling that there was more to this case than met the eye. As he walked back to his car, Alex's mind was racing with possibilities. Who was Mr. Smith, and what was his connection to Mrs. Jenkins and Mr. Johnson? And what was the real reason behind the accident? Alex knew that he had to dig deeper to uncover the truth. He decided to start by investigating Mr. Smith and his possible connections to the case. He spent the rest of the day researching and making phone calls, trying to gather as much information as possible. But the more he learned, the more questions he had. It was clear that Mr. Smith was a powerful and influential man, with connections to some of the most prominent people in the city. But what was his motive for being involved in the accident? Alex knew that he had to keep pushing forward, no matter how difficult it got. He was determined to uncover the truth and bring justice to his client. As he left the office and headed home, Alex couldn't help but feel a sense of unease. He knew that he was taking on a powerful opponent, and he wondered what other surprises lay ahead.
