He slowly opened his eyes, groggily taking in his surroundings. He was still in his office, slumped over his desk. He had fallen asleep while reviewing the case files. As he sat up, rubbing his eyes, he heard a knock at the door. "Come in," he called out. Sarah, his secretary, walked in, a look of shock on her face. "Alex, what are you doing? You're still in your clothes from yesterday," she said, her voice tinged with concern. He stood up, stretching his arms over his head. "I fell asleep while working on the Johnson case," he explained, feeling a bit sheepish. Sarah's expression softened, and she walked over to him, her high heels clicking on the floor. "You need to take care of yourself, Alex. You can't keep pushing yourself like this," she said, her voice firm but gentle. He smiled wryly, feeling a bit embarrassed. "I know, Sarah. But I have to win this case." Sarah nodded, her dark hair bobbing up and down. "I know you do, Alex. But you can't do it if you're running on fumes. Let me get you some coffee, and then we can go over the case files together." He nodded, feeling a surge of gratitude towards Sarah. She was more than just a secretary - she was a trusted ally and friend. As Sarah walked out to get the coffee, he took a moment to appreciate her. She was a beautiful woman in her mid-30s, with a sharp mind and a quick wit. She had been working with him for years, and he couldn't imagine running his practice without her. Sarah walked back in with a cup of steaming coffee, and he took it from her, feeling a sense of relief wash over him. "Thanks, Sarah. You're a lifesaver." Sarah smiled, her eyes crinkling at the corners. "Anytime, Alex. Now, let's get down to business. I've got some news about the plaintiff." He leaned forward, his eyes locked on Sarah's. "What did you find?" Sarah smiled, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Let's just say that the plaintiff's story isn't as clean as she made it out to be." He raised an eyebrow, feeling a surge of interest. "Tell me more." Sarah leaned forward, her voice dropping to a whisper. "I was able to dig up some information on the plaintiff's past. It seems she's been involved in several similar accidents in the past, all of which resulted in large settlements." He felt a spark of excitement ignite within him. This was the break he needed to win the case. As they spent the next few hours reviewing the case files and discussing their strategy, he nodded to himself, feeling confident that they were on the right track. Sarah's research skills were top-notch, and he knew he could count on her to dig up anything he needed. Just as they were wrapping up for the day, Sarah's phone rang. She answered it, listened for a moment, and then her expression turned serious. "What is it?" he asked, feeling a sense of trepidation. Sarah hesitated before speaking. "It's the plaintiff's lawyer. He wants to meet with us tomorrow to discuss a possible settlement." He felt a surge of surprise. A settlement? Already? But before he could respond, Sarah's eyes locked onto something behind him. He turned to see what it was, but there was nothing there. "What's wrong?" he asked, feeling a sense of unease. Sarah's expression was grim. "I don't know, but I think we're in trouble."
