Chapter 2: The End? Already?

1502 Words
Something kept nagging him. What was it ? He couldn't quite lay his finger on it. "Leave me alone", he said aloud. There was something he had to do didn't he? Did he? If he had to do something, why would he be sleeping?  Yet it kept nagging him, annoying him, forcing him to open his eyes, and yet he couldn't. He just wanted to keep sleeping. "Leave me alone", he repeated again. Yet the feeling grew more persistent and miraculously, even more annoying. "Fine", he shouted as he sat up,"If it isn't something important, there will be Hades to pay.". There was no one in sight. Then who was nagging him? More importantly, where was he? He seemed to be in a narrow valley, with just enough space for him to move around, startled. he looked up and, saw a sky that was so red that it seemed the clouds were made of blood, he looked around and saw jagged rocks were the only thing in sight, too steep to climb. There seemed to be an opening up ahead. He turned around, and saw a wall staring at him. It was a dead end, the only way out would be the opening. But why was he here? He couldn't remember that for the life of him. Why he would be in a place like this. "Well, I wont get any answers by staying here, might as well go look.", he thought, while making his way to the opening. What greeted him were monsters that would cause anyone to go mad. He looked around in surprise. Monsters of all shapes and sizes were milling around. Strange beasts that were walking on tiny legs, with huge bellies that sagged outwards. Ugly sharp teeth filled their mouths, with green skins that resembled rotting mould. He tried to retreat back into the opening he came from, but something caught his arm and threw him forward. He jumped up and looked at what had thrown him. A humanoid being with red skin, its face devoid of any emotion, almost as if it was bored, looked at him and said, "keep moving" and proceeded to ignore him. The red-skinned humanoid seemed to be a guard. Raka was surprised, after all he had been thrown and then ignored, almost as if he was trash. He wanted to punch the creature, but something told him it wasn't wise. He decided to obey the creature, for now at least.  As he kept moving, he saw others, people who were simply walking with a blank look on their faces. One of them walked too close to one of the monsters, and the monster lashed its tongue out, like a frog catching a fly with its tongue, and swallowed him. The poor man didn't even scream, as if he had already accepted his fate. That told him all he wanted to know about the monsters. Perhaps, he would find safety in numbers, it would be best to merge with the crowd. He walked over to one of them, a young man in his late twenties, and asked him, "Where are we?". The young man either didn't hear him or ignored him and kept walking. He looked around the tried his luck on a young boy, seemingly in his teens, " where are we?", and got the same result. "How annoying ", he thought, "at least they could look at me." The people seemed to be coming out of nowhere, and seemed to be walking in one direction, as if they all knew where they had to go. He decided to follow them and kept a close eye on the surrounding monsters. He didn't plan to become anyone's meal anytime soon. He kept following the crowd as they kept walking and soon , he noticed that he didn't tire. No matter how long he walked, he wouldn't even breathe hard. That was exciting, did this mean he would never get tired? As usual, he was left with even more questions. He also noticed that the number of monsters around him had decreased. Where were we headed was the only question in his mind, as a strange feeling descended on him, one that made him feel like a sheep being led to a s*******r. They had been walking for hours now, and while he didn't get tired, he did get bored. Would it kill someone to tell him where in Hades where they were headed. It angered him so much. "A Spartan always protects his brothers" The sudden voice made him jump. After all, it was the first time someone had talked in hours. He turned around and looked at the crowd to find the speaker. No one paid him the slightest bit of attention. They simply walked around him, as if he was a mere obstacle in their path. Had he imagined that voice? He kept moving. "A Spartan is never afraid to die in battle. It is through glorious death in the battlefield that we gain favour before Ares" This time he was sure that he had heard some speak. Someone was definitely talking. Was it someone he knew? "If you know me, please talk to me" he shouted, " I know I heard someone speak". He waited for a while and after receiving no reply, he kept moving along. "A Spartan repays every favour in kind. Kindness must be repaid 10 times and vengeance even more so" "Al right, who is talking to me , you have to stop this now", he shouted, " come out and face me coward". As usual he didn't get any reply, he was enraged. He was being teased and he didn't like it. The words he had heard made him seem nostalgic followed by a sense of loss and sadness. He tried to capture that feeling, what reason did he have to be sad? He didn't know anyone ,did he? Sighing, he turned around and kept walking. No more voices talked to him this time.  In the far distance, two cat-like creatures looked at the moving crowd and licked their lips ." Fresh Meat", one of them exclaimed.  "And lots of them too." the other agreed. Raka felt a shiver up his spine, almost like someone was watching him. The crowd had reached their destination. They arranged themselves in a single file and kept walking. Raka, so as not to get left, out decided to copy their movements. It felt like he had done this before. But where though? The line passed under a grand arch, and Raka couldn't help but look up and gasp in surprise, for great beings,  made out of stone, flew with ease. They had horns protruding from the side of their heads, which curved backwards. Sharp teeth , which reminded Raka of swords filled their mouths. On their hands, they had claws, which looked sharp enough to cut a person in half with a single blow. On their backs stretched wings ,which like the rest of their body, seemed to be made with stone, yet they had no problem flying. One of the creatures looked at him and growled, and that was enough to shake him from his reverie. He had no intention of being target practice for the creature. He hurriedly moved along. At least until, he saw the three beings.  They were three large beings seemingly made of stone, about 5 meters tall, but they moved like they were alive. One of them wore a golden crown on his head  and wore fine robes. The ones a king would wear. The one on the right held a stone tablet in his arms and seemed to study it intently. The one on the left had a aura of pride around him, as if his very existence was special. He also seemed bored, almost as if he had better things to do. One by one the people went into their presence , and the statutes would start talking, or atleast, he assumed they were talking, their lips were moving, however, he could hear no sound from them. Sometimes, the Beings would wave their hands, and guards similar to the red skin humanoid would come and drag one of the people away. This happened a total of two times. Eventually, it was his turn. He walked forward until he was in front of the beings and looked up at them. The Being in the middle, the one with the crown leaned forward and introduced himself.  "Greetings, Young Dead, I am King Minos of the 3 Judges of the UnderWorld." The terms "Young dead" and "UnderWorld" elicited a gasp from Raka. The 3 judges of the UnderWorld judged the souls of the dead and based on their actions, and granted them Elysium or the Fields of t*****e. What surprised him, was the fact that this could only mean that he was dead. x---------------------------------x--------------------------------------------x----------------------------x-----------------------------x Hey guys, I'm a aspiring new author.
