Matthew walked with me all the way to my office, my mind swirling with the possibilities of what could happen if what I believed was true. If Sarah was the silver wolf all the other packs around would want her, they’d come to take her if they could, I had to protect her and Jacob, I had to keep them safe.
I needed to come up with a plan should others realise the silver wolf had surfaced, we couldn’t take any chances, we had to make sure our lands were safe and secure.
Dalton and my father Gabriel were already waiting for us to arrive, both looking nervous and on edge, and I didn’t blame them, it wasn’t often I called an emergency meeting.
I sat down at my desk, placing my head into my hands for a moment, I needed to calm down, I didn’t even know for certain if she was the silver wolf, I couldn’t panic everyone and prepare them if I wasn’t sure, it was even true.
I knew something big was coming, Drei and I could feel it in our bones, but that didn’t mean I could make everyone panic unnecessarily, that would be irresponsible of me.
Dalton was just as tall as Matthew but slightly thinner in build, that didn’t stop him through, and he was one of the best warriors we had, he was extremely fast and loyal. He had bright blonde hair that was cut short and piercing blue eyes, a tattoo of a crescent moon of the side of his face.
My father on the other hand was an older version of myself, but he was still strong and able, more so than most of the younger wolves, but that would be the alpha blood running through his veins.
“What is it son?” My father asks, “what has gotten you so worked up?”
I turn to glance at Matthew before I speak, knowing he is going to freak out. “I found my mate today, at first I thought she was human, but she didn’t smell like one, she smelt like an unshifted wolf and something else I didn’t recognise.”
“That’s why we are on high alert?” Dalton asks, visibly concerned.
“Yes and no, the thing is while we were talking, she mentioned that her mother told her that she wouldn’t shift until her 20th birthday, that she had to leave home before then and find somewhere safe to change.” I explain, rubbing my hands down my face. “I believe... now I may be wrong, but I think she could possibly be the silver wolf.”
Matthew gasps, “No way.” He almost shouts.
“Isn't the silver wolf normally male?” Dalton frowns, “Unless your mate is a man, I don’t think it's possible.”
“Actually, Dalton you are wrong, the silver wolf can be either male OR female, it just so happens that the last four or five were men.” My father explains to the Gamma before turning back to me. “If you are sure about this our pack is in danger, everyone around the world will want her, especially the Alpha king.”
Dalton remains quiet, deep in thought, whilst Matthew smiles widely. “The Alpha King cannot claim her if Dylan is her mate, that’s the law. Mated Females belong with their male.” he says.
I nod, but my mind was still puzzled. “You are right Matthew, but that is the least of our worries, if she is the silver wolf, the most pressing matter is keeping her safe and making sure she is marked, without the mates mark on her, she is free for the taking.”
“Could you explain the situation to her?” Dalton asks, “Surely she will allow it if she knows the truth.”
“I can't ask her that until we know for sure that is who she is.” I say with a sigh, I was honestly stuck, with no way forward.
My father nods agreeing with me. “When does she turn 20?”
“In a months' time. I don’t know the exact date, she's knew and been through a lot, she doesn’t trust me yet.” I explain to them all, hoping for a solution.
“Then it's simple, don’t tell her or the pack for now, just make sure we have extra security.” Dalton suggests, leaning back in his chair. “All we say is that she is your mate.”
“I agree, don’t frighten her with ‘what if’ make sure we know what we are taking about before we tell her, that way we will keep the pack safe in the meantime.” My father adds.
I had to admit, it was a good idea, but I didn’t like the thought of lying to my mate, no matter the reason. Though I may not have a choice, if it would keep her and the pack safe, then I had no choice.
“Then that’s what we will do, this information does not leave this room.”
I just hoped that I was right, if my mate was the silver wolf, she is even more special than I originally thought.
“One more thing.” I say, causing all heads to turn to me. “She’s been abused her whole life, tread carefully if and when you see her.”
My father shakes his head, “if she truly is the silver wolf being slapped about will be the least of her worries.”
Dalton give my father a glare, a deadly one. “No female should suffer abuse from a male, just as no male should suffer at the hands of a female.”
I laugh, “you are right, but it doesn’t stop it from happening.” I run a shaky hand through my hair, “Just take your time with her, all of you.”
All three of them nod.
It seems we are in agreement for now, I just hope that it would last.
If Sarah is the silver wolf, all our lives would change.
But would it be for the better, or would we spend our lives fighting to survive?
I just hope she will let me mark her, I can’t lose her when I have only just found her.
Drei growls, in complete agreement with me. “No one will take her from us.”
“I hope you are right.”
