After hanging up the phone, Felicia curled up in the corner of her room, holding herself tightly.
She'd just managed to pay for her mother's medical bills, and now she was completely broke and buried in debt.
Her phone soon buzzed again, and when she checked it, she nearly screamed.
It was a photo from the creditor showing her father's arm stabbed with a knife with blood pouring out. The message read: "If you don't pay me by tomorrow, I'll take off one of his hands."
She spent the whole afternoon gripped by fear, feeling utterly lost.
Later that night, she hesitated for a long time outside Jadon's study before finally mustering the courage to knock on the door.
"Come in."
Jadon was leaning over his desk, wearing a white shirt and gold-rimmed glasses.
He looked up and asked coldly, "What happened?"
Felicia stepped closer and quietly said with her head down, "Could you possibly lend me some more money?"
Jadon leaned back in his chair, and his piercing gaze felt sharper through his glasses.
"You're not even pregnant yet, Ms. Baroni, but I've paid you half of the expenses. What gives you the idea that you can ask for more?"
His words stung Felicia like a slap, leaving her cheeks flushed.
Tears streamed down her face like a river.
"I'm sorry," she whispered before she turned to leave.
Luckily, he suddenly changed his mind.
"Wait a minute," he said to stop her.
Felicia looked back to see him reaching into the drawer for a check. He quickly scribbled down some numbers before handing it to her.
"This is the last time," he said.
As she stepped closer to take the check, she noticed it was for exactly sixty thousand dollars.
She was at a loss for words, and all she could manage was a solemn promise, "Thank you, Mr. Powell. I will definitely pay you back. Thank you for your generosity."
She suddenly felt a bit silly after saying it, and her cheeks flushed again.
She caught a hint of amusement in Jadon's eyes at that moment, which meant he seemed to be in a lighter mood.
"Just focus on getting ready for pregnancy and try not to overthink things," he added.
"Sure. I'm going to bed, then," she replied.
She left the study with the check in hand. She realized that his tone had been very gentle when he reminded her earlier.
It seemed like he was genuinely concerned about her worrying too much and how that might affect the pregnancy.
Felicia took the check to Joe, asking him once again to help transfer the money to her father。 She then headed upstairs to her room.
As she lay in bed, the memories of the previous night played on repeat in her mind, making her heart race all over again.
Maybe it was because she was so worn out yesterday or just anxious that she surprisingly managed to drift off to sleep.
In a dreamy haze, she felt someone come in. When she opened her eyes, she spotted a tall figure on the balcony that was softly illuminated by the dim light.
He had his phone to his ear and was talking in an unexpectedly gentle tone.
Felicia's heart skipped a beat for some unknown reason. It turned out that he wasn't always the cold person she thought he was.
She was curious about who he was talking to.
It had to be someone special because he wouldn't sound so tender otherwise.
"What do you have in mind?" asked Jadon.
Felicia was startled to find him standing right in front of her.
"Nothing," she stammered.
She looked down, her long lashes brushing her lower eyelid and making her look like a lovely and shy deer.
The sight of her pretty face melted Jadon's heart. His gaze wandered to her collarbone, remembering the marks he'd left from the night before. All the exciting feelings from last night rushed back to him at that moment. He tossed the covers aside, pulled her into his arms and leaned down closer to her.
Felicia pushed her hands against his chest. "Hold on a second."
"Yeah?"
"Actually, I'm not feeling great. Can I take a day to just rest?"
Her beautiful eyes glistened with tears when she looked up, making her look both vulnerable and helpless.
But then his cold voice sliced through the air, "Sorry, but you don't get to say no here."
A shiver ran down her spine as his warm body enveloped her, and he pressed a passionate kiss to her lips.
They made love all night, just like yesterday.
The next morning, Felicia woke up so drained that she didn't drag herself out of bed until noon.
As she made her way downstairs, she noticed something felt off. The staff in the villa were gathered together and casting strange looks at her.
They seemed to be whispering about something.
