The seniors stood completely still, like they were having a face off in one of those old cowboy movies. Tobias quickly and quietly made his way over to his friends in the corner. Blake rubbed his eyes, blinking over and over but his eye sight hadn't returned yet. He heard Light's voice repeat to him "Stay calm." She herself was not though. Looking at Blake's clouded eyes and the senior's standoff, she knew it would be impossible for anyone to stay calm.
"How long has it been?" Mayhem asked "Probably about 200- no 300 years now, huh?"
"Yep, all this time and you still couldn't fix that hair problem you've always had." Blessed said
"HEY." Mayhem snapped defensively "It takes a lot of time to get it this spiky."
"A lot of wasted time. Now, why are you here?"
"That kid knows where my junior is. I won't leave until he spills his guts."
Light pondered if he meant that figuratively or literally. You just couldn't tell with Mayhem. Blessed turned to her unimpressed "THAT'S what you called me here for?"
"He was gonna hurt Blake!" Light pleaded "Please get him out of here."
Blessed narrowed her sky blue eyes at Mayhem "We don't have to do this in front of the kid."
"You're right, best I get rid of him." Without warning Mayhem fired his trident at the child. A fiery red beam swirled from the points of the weapon, heading straight for Blake's confused face. Blessed stepped in front and with a swish of blue mist put the flame out.
Blake touched his face "What was that? I felt really hot there."
"Alright then," Blessed's hands glowed with a blue light "Let's go."
Mayhem struck again, twirling his trident and forming a fireball which shot right at Blessed. With her glowing hand she ran to him, smacking the blast from her and instead it hitting the door. A loud 'bash' could be heard as the door was blown to bits. Mayhem spread his wings and flew out the new exit with Blessed close on his tail. Light helped Blake up as several blasts and zaps could be heard from the battle.
"What's going on?"
"They're in the house now fighting," Light explained "Blake you need to stay here, it's dangerous."
"Wait a sec..." Blake began blinking rapidly as his vision came back blurry and slowly. "I'm starting to see again."
"Good, see I knew it was temporary!" Light said, more relived than Blake was. Tobias was gawking at the hole that was once a door with amazement. "That was a demon and an angel fighting in our home!"
"Yeah, and I want them out!" Blake got up, sight fully restored and ready to tell off the intruders when Light tugged a his ear. "No, stay HERE."
"Oh come on!"
"Blake, for once listen to me. I have only ever tried to help you."
The toddler looked to his vermin friend for help. Tobias just raised his hands and backed away. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but the little lady's right."
"Toby?!"
"I can't believe I'm saying this either but, right now the spooky room is the safest room in the house. I mean just listen to that-"
He paused and held his ear out, the three listened to Mayhem and Blessed thrashing around the house for a few moments. Vases, plates, possibly cupboards sounded like they were being smashed against the wall.
"THAT is why we aren't going anywhere." Tobias finished and planted himself on the ground. "We should stay here and finish our game of eye spy until they both leave."
Light nodded in agreement "Blake?"
"...Fine." the stubborn boy finally caved.
"Good, I'll go first," Tobias cheered "I spy with my little eye-"
The raccoon's sentence, game and possibly life was cut short when the ceiling crashed in on the trio, the source of the wreckage plummeting right on top of the tinman.
"TOBIAS!" Blake yelled at leftover debris from the ceiling fell onto the wreck. "Toby are you okay?"
But instead of Tobias breaking free, Mayhem popped out and violently seized Blake by the hoodie. The boy's cries were useless as Mayhem only tightened his grip and prepared to scorch the toddler, until he felt a swift prick in the eye.
"Ow!" he yelled dropping Blake and grabbing for his eye instead. Light stood on Blake's shoulder proudly holding her heel. "Okay you bloodthirsty demon; I think it's time you took a hint, and SHOE!" With that she tossed her heel toward the demon, landing it perfectly on his pupil.
Blake didn't need Light to tell him to run, already he was hot on his feet, looking around the house and taking in the absolute bombsite it had become. Mum's gonna kill me... he thought as he raced up the cracked and partially missing staircase. When he found his room, he was met by a gaping hole leading to the laundry room under him, and the basement where Mayhem still dwelled in pain from Light's shoe.
"Is he compromised?" Blake jumped at the sight of Blessed in the corner, he hadn't noticed her at all. "Oh, and sorry for making you blind."
"That's okay." he stammered, in fact now he could finally look at Blessed, he didn't wanna stop. She had fair skin with blue eyes that oddly matched her light golden brown hair, which tumbled down to her shoulders as some was pulled across her head to a small bun in the back. She wore a lace blouse with a bow tied at the back and a denim skirt with flats. While her arms, legs and face were covered in burns and scratches from her tussle, Blake figured she was a sight for sore eyes.
"Yeah, I threw my shoe at him!" Light exclaimed as Blessed made her over to sit on Blake's bed. "You shoulda seen me, I was all 'Take a hint and SHOO' and threw my shoe ant him! Get it? SHOO? SHOE?"
"I get it," Blessed held her palm out, gesturing for Light to shut up. "But that won't compromise him. He's probably planning a sneak attack right now."
"Um," Blake finally worked up the courage to intervene "Hi, I'm Blake."
"Blessed." she greeted without looking him in the eye.
"You're sitting on my bed."
"Do you mind?"
"Um- no! N-not at all."
"Good cause I wasn't moving."
"Blessed is my senior angel," Light explained "Whenever I shout 'Blessed, here!' She'll appear and assist me in anything I need help with."
"The last time you called me you had your arm trapped in a door."
"Yeah, I did." Light smiled at the memory of Blake locking her in the spooky room when they first met. Blake just looked ashamed "So that's how you got out?"
"Yup. I called Blessed here now to take care of Mayhem."
"Why is he here? What's wrong with him?"
"I met him a few months before...like you he was also trying to wake up the demon."
"DARN RIGHT I WAS." Mayhem shouted from two floors below "And if my leg weren't stuck in this debris I would fly up there and strangle all of you!"
"You didn't tell me there was another demon?" Blake snapped at Light.
"Your obsession with the last one was bad enough, I was just trying to protect you from all this!"
"Where is Flare?!" Mayhem yelled out
"Another demon took him!" Blake said.
"Liar!"
"No it's the truth. We were at this church one night trying to wake him up, and this blob appeared from the window and made everything go dark before taking him."
Mayhem paused to consider this before staring up at Light "You were telling the truth?"
"Of course I was. But you scared me into lying!"
"This church demon," Blessed chipped in "Did he have green eyes, complete black surface with no real human form?"
"Uh yes," Light answered
"He was in a church? The stained windows?"
"Yes."
"Did you put Flare in some sort of holy water?"
"...Yes." Light began to have a pit feeling in her stomach "Did we do something bad?"
"Yes. You've attracted the attention of not a demon, but an omen. And a bad one too."
***************************************************************
The four gathered in the sitting room a while later, seemingly at a standstill and ready to co-operate. Blessed and Mayhem, now having heard the full story, filled in Blake and Light of the mistakes they made.
"There are good omens and there are bad omens." Blessed explained "When you went to that church, you used Flare as a negative influence in a holy area, which released a bad omen that must've been sealed in the church windows for a long time."
"Jinx was his name, he was powerful and had scary abilities that went beyond your average omen." Mayhem said "That's the guy you met in church and that's the guy that took Flare."
"Flare..." Blake repeated, stunned the guy actually has a name "So what do we do?"
"Well, before anyone in the great beyond finds out there's an evil omen roaming earth, we have to find him and seal him back in church." Blessed replied. "Oh I'm sorry. I meant I."
"No, you meant we." Mayhem hesitantly corrected "I have to collect that imbecile and take him back to hell. Then he'll be relieved of his shoulder-demon duties."
"And I'll come too!" Blake randomly announced.
"WHAT?" The other three exclaimed.
