Selene wrapped her arms around herself as she slowly made her way toward the master bedroom. Her entire body trembled. The tears wouldn't stop falling no matter how many times she wiped them away. The moment she entered the room, she closed the door behind her and leaned against it. The silence that followed felt overwhelming. Her gaze fell on the torn nightgown. For a long moment, she simply stared at it. Then, with shaking hands, she removed it and threw it into a trash bag. She didn't want to see it ever again. She didn't want to remember. Yet the memories kept replaying in her mind. Selene quickly walked into the bathroom and turned on the hot shower. Steam slowly filled the room as water poured from above. Unable to hold herself up any longer, she slid down against the wall and sat on the cold floor beneath the falling water. The hot water soaked her hair and skin, but it did nothing to ease the ache inside her chest. She covered her eyes with her palms and finally let herself break. Sobs tore through her body. All the pain she had been holding back came rushing out at once. She cried until her throat hurt. She cried until she struggled to breathe. Most of all, she cried because of the humiliation. The humiliation hurt almost as much as the betrayal. How could her husband do that? How could the man chosen by the Moon Goddess treat her this way? How could the person who was supposed to protect her become the one who hurt her the most? Selene's heart felt like it was being ripped apart. Inside her mind, her wolf whimpered. The sound was filled with sadness and pain. It mirrored exactly how Selene felt. She couldn't bear it. Everything hurt too much. After what felt like hours, Selene finally stood up. Her eyes were swollen from crying. Her chest still ached. But she couldn't stay inside the packhouse any longer. The walls felt suffocating. She quickly changed into fresh clothes and quietly slipped out of the house. No one stopped her. No one noticed her leaving. The night air greeted her as she stepped outside. Selene kept walking until she reached the edge of the forest. Then she ran. She ran deeper and deeper between the trees until the packhouse was no longer visible. Only then did she allow her wolf to emerge. White fur replaced skin. Within seconds, a beautiful white wolf stood beneath the moonlight. The wolf lifted her head toward the sky. A long, sorrowful howl echoed through the forest. It carried her pain. The sound traveled through the trees and into the night, a cry from a soul that had been wounded by the person she trusted most. When the howl finally faded, the forest fell silent once more. On the other hand, Jeffrey finally returned home after a long day dealing with the rogue incident. The moment he stepped inside the house, he saw Bianca waiting in the living room. She was sitting on the couch with her hands folded neatly on her lap, as if she had been waiting for him for quite some time. "You're back," Bianca said, standing up as soon as she saw him. Jeffrey closed the door behind him and placed his keys on the nearby table. "Do you need something?" he asked. Bianca clasped her hands together and shook her head. "Nothing. I just wanted to see you," she replied with a small smile. Jeffrey let out a scoff. The sound immediately wiped the smile from Bianca's face. "Really?" he asked. Bianca frowned. "What is that supposed to mean?" she asked. Jeffrey loosened the collar of his shirt and looked at her. "But when you got injured, your first response was to call Alpha Nikolai," Jeffrey said. Bianca immediately looked away. For a moment, she couldn't meet his eyes. "He's my best friend. He didn't mean any harm with the help that he did," she said quietly. Jeffrey laughed bitterly. "And I'm your husband," Jeffrey shot back. The words hung heavily between them. Bianca bit her lower lip. She knew exactly why Jeffrey was upset. Ever since they became mates, Nikolai had remained a constant presence in her life. While Jeffrey had always tried to be understanding, there were times when even his patience had limits. Slowly, Bianca stood up and walked toward him. "Jeff..." she said softly. When he didn't respond, she reached for him. "Let me make it up to you," Bianca said. Her fingers moved to the buttons of his shirt, intending to help him relax after the exhausting day. But Jeffrey immediately caught her wrist and gently pushed her hand away. "I'm not in the mood," he said. There was no anger in his voice. Only exhaustion. Physical exhaustion from the patrol. Emotional exhaustion from everything else. Bianca's shoulders dropped. For a moment, neither of them spoke. Jeffrey turned and started walking toward the hallway. Before he could leave, Bianca grabbed his arm. He stopped. "Can we at least go somewhere tomorrow?" she asked quietly. "Just the two of us," she added. "I wanna make it up to you, Jeff," she said. Jeffrey looked at her. For the first time that evening, he noticed the uncertainty in her eyes. The nervousness.bThe fear that he might reject her.bDespite everything, Bianca was still his mate. His wife. The woman he had promised to spend the rest of his life with. Jeffrey let out a long sigh. "Alright," he said finally. Relief instantly appeared on Bianca's face. "Really?" she asked. Jeffrey nodded. "Really." A small smile returned to her lips. Without waiting for her response, Jeffrey continued down the hallway. "I'm going to take a shower," he said. A few moments later, he disappeared into their room, leaving Bianca alone in the living room. The smile on her face slowly faded. The silence inside the house suddenly felt much louder than before. Her plans are all set and this time, she'll take everything back from Selene. For the first time in a long while, Bianca found herself wondering just how much Jeffrey truly knew. And whether his patience with her was finally starting to run out.
