Chapter1:TheBeginning

Alpha Kael was sitting at the head of the long table, and the room smelled like roasted meat. He carefully cut his food, but his eyes kept going to Luna Selene, who was sitting across from him in silence. She pushed her food around on her plate without thinking. Her silver hair fell over her shoulder like a covering, hiding some of the stress on her face. There was a problem. Kael's thoughts briefly went back to the day of their wedding, when they made promises to each other under the golden sun and spoke with such confidence about their love. But those promises seemed far away and weak now, like thin silk threads that might come apart. Kaleb softly called out, "Selene," and put down his knife. He looked at her face with intense blue eyes that tried to break through the wall she had put up between them. "What's wrong? You seem... distant." When Selene looked up, her green eyes were still wet with tears. She shook her head but stayed silent. Kael frowned, worry squeezing his chest as he rose from his chair. He crossed the room quickly, kneeling beside her, his big hands finding hers, squeezing softly. Her hands were cold, and she pulled away from his hold. "Talk to me, sweetheart," he urged, his voice tight with fear. "You haven't been yourself for weeks. Is something troubling you? Did I do something wrong?" Selene stood suddenly, escaping his touch, and walked over to the large windows that overlooked the snowy peaks of Kael's land. She folded her arms tightly across her chest, her back stiff. Words churned in her mind, but they felt stuck in her throat, trapped by the storm of feelings rising within her. Kael followed her, his hands floating just above her shoulders before resting gently. "Please, Selene. Tell me what's going on. You know I’ll do anything to make you happy." A sour laugh left her lips, her shoulders shaking under his touch. "Make me happy?" she whispered, her voice trembling with restrained emotion. "It's been seven months, Kael. Seven long months, and I..." Her words trailed off as she wiped away a tear that slipped down her face. Kael’s brow wrinkled in confusion. "Seven months of what? I don’t understand." She spun around, her voice rising with anger. "Of disappointment! Of emptiness! You promised me—before we got married—you promised to satisfy me in every way. But that promise... it’s been nothing but a lie." Kael stepped back, shock rippling through him. "What do you mean, Selene? I've done everything I can for you. I’ve provided for you, protected you. What more could you ask of me?" Selene took a shaky breath, her chest tightening as she met his eyes. Her voice was low, raw. "It’s not about protection or provision, Kael. It’s about... us. About what happens in the bedroom. You may be the strongest Alpha in the pack, but when it comes to being my husband, you’ve failed." Kael stiffened, his face stiffening. "Failed? How could you say that? I love you. I’ve given you everything." "But not what I truly need," she whispered. Her eyes flickered lower, and she shook her head. "On the night of our wedding, when I saw you… your body... I realized I had made a mistake. The size of your manhood… it isn’t what I imagined. It’s not what I need, Kael." A long beat of silence stretched between them. Kael’s jaw clenched, his fingers turning white. "You’re judging me based on that? You’re unhappy because I don't meet some... ridiculous expectation of yours?" "It’s not ridiculous to me!" Selene snapped, her tears spilling freely now. "I married you believing I would be fulfilled in every way. I thought you would satisfy me as a mate should. But every night, I lie next to you feeling more and more empty. It’s killing me, Kael." Kael turned away from her, his feelings stirring fiercely. He had always been the rock of strength, but now, hearing these words from the woman he loved, he felt helpless. "So that’s it? You’ve been distant, cold, because of something so shallow?" "It’s not shallow!" Selene shot back, her voice shaking with anger. "It’s my dream, Kael. My dream to be with someone who can truly fulfill me in every way. I never wanted to hurt you, but I’m miserable. How can I live like this, feeling trapped in a marriage that doesn’t give me what I need?" Kael's heart beat in his chest. His mind raced, trying to make sense of her words, but the pain of her rejection stabbed deeper than he could have imagined. "So, what are you saying, Selene? That I’m not enough for you? That you regret marrying me?" "I didn’t say that," Selene whispered, her voice shaking with pain. "But I am saying that I’m not happy. I’m not satisfied. And it’s tearing me apart inside." Kael turned to face her again, his searching eyes filled with pain and frustration. "And what do you suggest I do? You think I can just change overnight? You knew who I was before you married me. I may not be everything you fantasized about, but I am still your husband. You owe me some loyalty!" "Loyalty? Do you think this is just about loyalty?" Selene's voice cracked as she fought back another wave of tears. "It’s about my needs, Kael. You’re supposed to be my partner, but you haven’t even noticed how unhappy I’ve been. I’ve kept quiet for months, hoping things would change, but they haven’t. And I’m reaching my breaking point." Kael's mind reeled. He had always believed his love, his strength, would be enough for her. But now, standing before Selene, he saw how blind he had been to her pain. His hands shook as he ran them through his hair. "Selene..." His voice was softer now, the anger replaced by doubt. "What do you want from me? Tell me how to fix this. I can’t lose you." Selene’s look relaxed, but the pain remained etched deeply into her face. "I don’t know, Kael. I don’t know if you can fix it. This... this isn't just a small problem. It’s everything. It’s the foundation of our marriage, and it feels like it’s crumbling beneath me." Kael swallowed hard, his throat tight as fear started to creep into his heart. "But you promised to be mine. You swore to stand by me, no matter what." "And I meant it," Selene said, her voice breaking. "But I never imagined it would be like this. I thought I’d be happy. I thought you would fulfill me. And now… I don’t know what to do." Kael’s shoulders slumped, his body suddenly feeling heavier than ever. He had always been the stronger, the one in charge. But now, he stood before his wife feeling like he had failed her in the most deep way. "What if I’m not enough for you?" Kael asked, his voice barely a whisper. "What if I can’t give you what you need?" Selene looked at him, her heart hurting with every beat. She had never wanted to hurt him like this, but the truth could no longer be hidden. "I don’t know, Kael. I don’t know if you can. But I can’t go on pretending everything is fine when it’s not." Kael nodded slowly, his mind spinning with doubt and confusion. He didn’t have the answers, and that scared him. He had always been able to solve problems with raw force or sheer will, but this was different. This was deeper, more complex. "Is this the end for us?" Kael asked, his voice heavy with uncertainty. "Is there no way to make things right?" Selene paused, her eyes searching his face for any sign of hope. She wanted to think there was a way to fix things, but the cracks in their marriage felt too deep to mend. She took a deep breath and shook her head slightly. "I don’t know, Kael," she whispered. "I honestly don’t know." Kael stepped closer, the faint glimmer of despair in his eyes. He took her hands, gently fondling them. "Sweetheart, talk to me." Kael's intense blue eyes searched hers, filled with love and fear. Selene's chest tightened as she looked back, her thoughts a storm of unsaid wants. "I'll do anything to make you happy, Selene," Kael whispered, his voice shaking with emotion. "Anything." He took the golden ring from his finger and put it in her hand. The weight of the ring felt heavy than ever, a sign of the vows that now seemed fragile. Selene's fingers closed around the ring, her thoughts spinning like a storm. She knew what she wanted, but the words stuck in her throat, an uncontrolled beast. Kael's grip on her shoulders stiffened, his words edged with a hint of frustration. "Tell me, Selene. What's haunting you?" She faked a smile, but her heart felt like lead. How could she ask him to risk everything? "Kael, I..." Her voice faltered, and she looked away, the silence between them widening. Kael's temper frayed, his speech laced with worry. "Selene, you're scaring me. What could be so terrible?"
