I cried out with salty tears streaming down my face. He doesn't listen to me and repeatedly hits me over and over until he was satisfied. " You're just a waste of space you f*****g w***e. You don't deserve to live." he said to me with such hatred in the venomous words he threw at me as if it left a bad taste in his mouth. While he went towards the kitchen, I laid there on the floor in so much pain with heavy tears flowing down my face. He's right. I wish I was never born and that I wouldn't be tormented like this. I miss my mom. I miss my dad. But, most of all I miss the good times we spent together. When he came back into the room, I noticed an object in his hands that glistened in the dim room. Oh no. He has a knife in his hands. He came towards me with a sinister smile on his face while clutching the sharp knife in his right hand. Panicked took over me and it was like my body was paralyzed from fear to move an inch. I tried backing up and leaving but, he quickly grabbed me by throat to which he slammed me head first into the wall. He came closer to me as if he was a predator ready to eat its prey. " No. Please don't. NOOOOOOOO!!!!!" I sat up straight upon my bed with sweat dripping down my face and tears coming out of my eyes. I let out a deep breath and was instantly relieved that it was only a nightmare. It's only a bitter memory playing inside my head that I wish to forget. I hated that something like this is stuck in my head. I wish my mom never married that bastard and left me with him to suffer. I looked to to my left and seen that it was 7:00 a.m. and I have about an hour to get ready for my job at Mrs. Jones bakery. I got up from my comfy bed which by the way is really warm. I really don't feel like going to work but, you can't make money by sitting on your butt all day. I went inside the bathroom to take a quick shower for about fifteen minutes and brushing my teeth afterwards. After finishing my shower, I quickly dried myself off with a towel and put on my underwear deciding what to wear next. I picked out a pink long sleeves sweater with a pair of black jeans and also paired with black ballerina flats. I put my hair into a messy bun. Then I put on light makeup to make it look natural. I quickly made my way down stairs only to be hit with the scent of eggs and bacon. " Hey Alissa, I see that you're finally up." My best friend and roommate Joanna said. "Morning Jo and I have to go to work in about twenty- five minutes." I said while taking a plate full of eggs, bacon, and waffles. Joanna and I been best friends since the fourth grade. We been so much together while growing up. She even knows about my past. I remember when my mom's husband John came home drunk and started fighting with my mom that I got scared. I snuck out the window and went to Joanna's house. She comforted me and let me stay in her room. She's the only reason that I'm still alive till this day. "Hey Lisa, (that's what she called me sometimes), we should go hang out tonight since you promised me that you will hang out with me." She said while flipping over the bacon. " I don't know though. I'm not really the type to go out and party. Besides I have work and I'm also thinking about finding another job somewhere in my field." I told her while stuffing my face with a fork full of waffles. Jo rolled her eyes and sighed at me while finishing up cooking breakfast. " Oh my god Lisa, your the most hardworking person I know. Even when growing up you only focused on school till the point you forgot to focus on yourself and your health. And besides, I miss hanging out with you. Ever since I started working as a new model, we barely she each other during the day and when I have free time your working as well. But today, I have time and your shifts end around 4:30 p.m. so, we can go out tonight. Pleeeaaassseee Lisa, I really want us to hang out." She said to me in a desperate tone while giving me her infamous puppy dog eyes. I sighed in defeat. She's right, I need to go out. I barely had fun especially as a kid. Now I'm free to do whatever since I'm an adult. "Okay Jo, you win we can go hang out tonight. Will have to talk more about where we're going to go tonight when my shift ends at 4:30 ." I told her while gathering my belongings. "Yes! I no one can resist my cute face. And bye, I hope you have a good day at work." Jo said while squeezing the breathe out of my body. She let go of me and let me leave out of our apartment we shared to go wait for the bus. After a couple of minutes, the bus came and I got on. I sat next to a old woman with silver hair. She wasn't the prettiest thing to look at but, that doesn't mean I can't sit next to her and be nice. She smiled at me and I just smiled back at her in return. " Love is coming your way dear. I know it. But, love can happen in many different and mysterious ways." The old woman said with a grin showing all her yellow stained teeth. I glanced at her as she kept staring at me. I was going to respond to her but figured it was best if I didn't. Again I smiled and looked out the window. Finally I made it to Mrs. Jones bakery after ten minutes. I was greeted by the 58 year old woman herself. Mrs. Jones is an African American women that is married to her husband Mr. Allen Jones who is a retired veteran. Five years ago, I just finished high school and was ready for college. The problem with that wasn't how I was going to pay for college but, how was I going to get money to support myself while in college. I met her while I was hunting for other jobs. I didn't know that she was looking for a new employee. She was just a random person who I bumped into on the streets. She asked me why I was in such a hurry. I told her my situation about needing money while in college and next thing I knew I was working where I am today. I'm going to miss her and everyone else who works there. But I have to get another job. I can't work in a small bakery for the rest of my life. Otherwise my degree in finance would go to waste along with all my hard work. "Hello dear."she greeted me with a warm smile. A smile you'll always love seeing. "Hello Mrs. Jones. How's Mr. Jones?" I asked her with a warm smile also. "Oh he's fine dear. He's been spending time with the grandkids. They've gotten bigger. Also I need you to work the cash register right now. Brian called in sick while Kiera is still on a maternity leave. So it'll be you, Jasmine, and I today. I hope it won't be a lot for us to handle." She said to me while getting things prepared for the day. "Okay Mrs.Jones. I'll be happy to. And don't worry, I'm sure it won't be too bad." I reassured her. "Thank you dear. I'm glad you and Jasmine are here to help." "No problem at all Mrs. Jones." I told her. I started to make my way towards the kitchen to store away my belongings, only to feel one hundred and twenty pounds of human flesh jump on top of me, making me almost lose my balance. "ALISSA YOUR HERE!!!" Jasmine, my coworker, practically yeld out while squeezing all the air out of me. "Well it's nice to see you and all but, I'll appreciate it if you let me go." I hugged her while at the same time wanting her to let go of me . "Sorry but, you know your my favorite person to work with. If you didn't come I surely would of played sick and not come in. Don't tell the others that you're my favorite." She happily chirped. Jasmine been working for Mrs. Jones for three months before I came along. I remember when I first worked here, she would talk alot about anything. You can be talking about the weather to her and somehow she ended talking about how broccoli is her favorite instrument. At first I was annoyed by her but soon, I got used to her and befriended her afterwards. "Sure I won't tell the others I'm your favorite." I chuckled. "Alissa and Jasmine, I need to step out for second to sort out some delivery problems. Would it be too much if you girls can handle the shop while I'm gone? It'll only be a few minutes." Mrs. Jones stepped in, making our attention go towards her. "Of course not Mrs. Jones. Alissa and I wouldn't mind. And besides, it seems like we won't be having too many costumers today." Jasmine happily replied while I agreed with her. "Thank you girls so much. I'll make sure to give you girls a bonus for doing all this extra work yourselves." She said to us with a kind smile. She left out the kitchen so, that she can figure things out with the delivery guy. As soon as she left, the chimes on the door started to make noise indicating there were a costumer. I quickly made my way out of the kitchen to the register only to be blessed by a beautiful sight. It was a man who looked to be in his early twenties and looks to be 6'0 feet tall. He had dark brunnett short hair that was cut into a professional style, he had a five o'clock shadow, he was tan, and had piercing brown eyes that looked at me. He was wearing a navy blue suit with a tie and dress shows to match. He looked like an important business man. Oh my gosh, he looked liked some kind of model or royalty. A man like him would have a girl do something strange for a piece of change if you know what I mean. "Hello, I'm in a hurry so let's make this fast, I need you to get me a dozen of chocolate flavor cupcakes. Can you handle that or do I need to go somewhere else?" He spoke with an arrogant and cold voice without even glancing at me. What the hell? What kind of person goes somewhere and demand something from someone as if he owns the place. This asshole need to learn some manners. I looked at him with a scowl on my face but, quickly covered it up with a fake smile. Even though he's being rude, I don't want to make Mrs.Jones shop look bad by being rude also. "Ok, that'll be $18.50. And I'm sure I can handle a very small task sir." Notice I added quite empashis on the word sir trying my best to be nice. He handed me a hudred dollar bill from his wallet and shoved it towards me. "Here keep the change, it seems like you might need it." He rudely said. No he did not. "Excuse you? I'm not some charity or some low life you can talk to like that. I'll appreciate it if you talk to me with some manners you arrogant rat. " I snapped back while handing him his money back. I then started to walk towards him standing only a few inches from him. As soon as I said that, he quickly looked up from his phone and looked at me with a look of anger. His lips was in a thin line with his eyes looking down at me. Being this close to him made me realize how small I am and how I kinda regret saying anything. I gulped in fear but, didn't let it show my hands are crossed in front of my chest while I stared back at the handsome man. "Who the hell are you talking to? Do you know who-" He replied only to be cut off. "I don't care who you are. You can leave and not come back you ass." I rudely told him. If he wants to act rude then so can I. But what happened next I didn't expect. He grabbed me in one arm and put one head behind my head. Then he lean in close to my ear. I can feel his his hot breath fanning against my neck. I instantly felt heat creeping upon my face that let's one know I'm blushing. My knees feels all weak like Jell-O, making it hard for me to move. He chuckled in my ear which sounded somewhat sinister. His voice so smooth and velvety. I automatically gulped feeling somewhat scared. What the hell is Jazz is doing back there? It'll be nice if she would enter any moment. "I see your a fiesty one. Its adorable that you think you can stand up to someone like me. No one has ever talked to me like that before. If it wasn't for your pretty face sweetheart, I would've made sure you didn't make it out of here alive. But, I'm running a little late so I'll let you slide. But, I won't forget this moment. I will come back and I will make sure your regret every moment you talked to me." He then let go of me and smirked at me with an arrogant look in his eyes. He turned around and left the bakery. Leaving me there confused, scared, and angry.
