Chapter Three

3597 Words
Third POV "Elijah!" Xavier shouted as he ran down the outdoor corridor. There were brick pillars every few metres, to the left of these was a grassy area, and to the right were some entrances to the base of the Palace. This was on the back side of the Palace. Several metres ahead Elijah walked at a brisk pace, he sighed and rolled his head back and stopped walking, waiting for his twin to catch up to him. "You don't have to say it Xavier," he said and glanced back at his twin. Xavier's face was bright right, his eyes narrowed and his jaw clenched. Xavier reached his brother and now stood directly in front of him, facing him, hands clenched into fists. "You can't expect me to believe you aren't the least bit curious." He spoke firmly. "I'm not." Elijah said and pulled a hand rolled cigar and a lighter out of his pocket. "Yeah, right. You don't care about anything." Xavier furrowed his brows, unbelieving. "This isn't just anything. This is your mate." "Your mate. Not mine." Elijah lit his cigar. Xavier still head a look of disbelief. "Are you going to tell her?" Elijah asked. "It's not like she feels it the way you do, she might not even know yet." "I think your little show gave it away." Xavier sounded irritated still, but a little less now. Elijah rolled his eyes, and rolled his head slightly. Xavier ran a hand through his dark brown hair, he gripped it as he thought, stressed. "I'll talk to her tomorrow, at the ball." "I'll make myself scarce then." Elijah turned to face the direction he was headed in before and took a drag of his cigar. "I'm not one for parties anyway." He muttered and walked away. ... The day passed by and as evening approached, Pisces grew nervous for dinner. She walked into the large dining room, noticing straight away that neither Xavier or Elijah were present. Everyone else were beginning to take their seats.  "Rose, where the hell is my Chardonnay?!" Maive snapped.  "Coming Luna!" The servant girl squeaked. Pisces watched sympathetically. She hated that the servants were constantly snapped at, that they were given practically rags to wear, that they were fed scraps. She hated that Maive could never get their names right, or maybe that Maive purposely called their names incorrectly. She hated that the servants were really slaves, werewolves that had been spared from a war and taken captive.  As Pisces sat down, Cleo came and sat next to her. "Xavier said to say sorry that he couldn't make it tonight, but he asked me to ask you to save you a dance tomorrow." She whispered excitedly. Pisces nodded, not quite knowing how to feel about that. She wondered why he wasn't present at dinner. Did he know that she knew they were mates? Rosalie walked over with the wine bottle and went to poor some into Cleo and Pisces' glass. Pisces smiled but shook her head, "I'm okay, thanks Rosalie." Rosalie smiled and bowed her head before moving onto the next glass. Pisces started to pile food onto her plate, as the table erupted into different chats.  "Did you see Pisces today? She threw them stones like they weighed nothing!" Diego excitedly spoke to his brother. Dyson laughed as he glanced between Pisces and Diego,  "Yeah, she was epic, she whooped your ass in under two minutes!" "A fine addition to our warriors." King Drago cut in with a smile, he toasted his glass in her direction and smiled at her before taking a sip of his red wine.  Pisces smiled shyly. "Thanks."  At the end of dinner, everyone left fairly quickly, except Pisces and Cleo who stayed back a bit, while the servants began to pack the table up. Cleo gave Pisces a questioning look, "Why are we still here?" She asked and grew further curious as she noticed Pisces piling more food onto her plate. Pisces walked over to Rosalie who was picking up the plates. Rosalie paused and looked at Pisces,  "Miss Pisces, how can I help you?" She bowed.  "Please, just Pisces, and please don't bow." Pisces smiled, "Here. I want you to have this." "Miss- I-I mean Pisces, thank you you're so gracious, but I couldn't." "You can, and you will." Pisces held the plate out further, "Please, I insist. If it makes you feel better about it, share it with the others." Rosalie smiled, full of gratitude. She took the plate appreciatively. "Thank you M- Pisces." She gave a short curtsy and hurried out of the room. Cleo smiled at Pisces,  "You're so nice. I saw you give Seamus your lunch yesterday too." "You don't give them food?" "Of course, I do." Cleo nodded, "You have to be careful though. If Maive catches them with it, she'll say they stole it and use it as an excuse to beat them." "You're kidding." Pisces deadpanned. Cleo shook her head with saddened eyes.  "I feel so sorry for them." "Me too." Pisces nodded.  "Come on, let's go take a dip in the hot tub and have Erica put on a fashion show for us so we can determine which dresses we want to wear tomorrow!" Cleo then squeaked with excitement and rushed out of the dining room.  ... The next afternoon Pisces and Cleo were nearly ready, in Cleo's bedroom chambers with two servants, Erica and Julie, both had been helping the girls with their hair and makeup. Cleo wore a stunning, deep red dress that clung to her hourglass figure and had a leg slit on the right side. Pisces too wore a fitted dress, it was black with tiny sparkles with thin shoulder straps, it was slightly longer and the back. Both had Smokey eye makeup, Cleo's had more red tones while Pisces had purple / black tones. Once the makeup and hair was done, Julie and Erica left the room. Cleo checked her phone, "It's seven-forty, that's ten minutes past the start time, I think we should give it another ten then start heading over. The perfect fashionably late time." She nodded. Pisces looked at her reflection, she looked gorgeous but couldn't contain her nerves. "You look stunning." Cleo assured her. Pisces smiled, "Thanks, so do you." "Are you excited? Xavier was so nervous earlier, I had to help him with his tie!" She laughed. "Does he know that I know?" Cleo nodded, "I had a long chat with him. He wants to talk to you about it tonight." "Great..." Pisces mumbled. "Okay you're so not on the same level of excited. What's wrong?" Pisces shrugged, "I don't know. I've got two mates? My mum's dead? I'm living in a new place, training for some war that will be approaching in less than two weeks and-" Cleo cut in by gently grabbing Pisces' shoulders. She gave Pisces a reassuring look, "Close your eyes." She instructed; Pisces followed suit. "Now take a deep breath. A few more. Good. Feel the ground beneath your feet. Listen to the bubbling water in the hot tub. Smell that fresh sandalwood candle. I am here with you. You are safe, you are loved. There are so many s**t things going on right now, but remember, this will pass. Now take one more deep breath and open your eyes." Pisces inhaled and exhaled deeply. She opened her eyes and nodded, slowly gaining reassurance that things were going to be okay. Moments later, her and Cleo began to walk to the ballroom. ... The ball room was a very spacious area with marble tiling floors, a large chandelier in the centre where the ceiling arched upwards was the shining décor everyone marvelled over for at least a couple minutes. A live band of string instruments played loudly along the back side wall. Werewolves in their human forms danced, stood around and chatted, drank and laughed. It was a joy-filled evening, where five different packs gathered to celebrate. By the fancy bar with a smooth and shiny, dark wooden bar top, King Alpha Drago stood with Eric, Xavier and the five other Alphas. Two of these Alphas were middle-aged, not much older than Alpha Drago, while the other three were aged between nineteen and twenty-three. "Great quality bourbon as per usual." One of the middle-aged Alpha toasted his glass towards Drago. The other middle-aged man agreed, "You always have the expensive stuff." He laughed. Drago smiled and took another swig of his drink. "George how is Marsha?" "Good, good. She's been going overkill with our training though." He laughed half-heartedly, a tiny glint of desperation and exhaustion in his eyes, but mostly they were full of laughter and confidence, he felt prepared for their upcoming battle with the Shadow Wolves. The Alphas continued to laugh and chat about their packs. Beta Eric eventually started to look around for his daughter. He had been paying attention to the guards at the door who had been introducing the royal family and the visiting Alpha families, but they were a little difficult to hear over the loud, numerous conversations and the music in the background. Eric turned to Drago, a little curious but not bothered, "I wonder where our girls are at?" He asked. Drago looked around the room to spot his wife with Milo and Seven, Jax and Seth were standing to the side chatting to a couple higher ranking females from visiting packs, and Xavier was to the right of him, chatting to a couple of the younger Alphas. He frowned, "Elijah isn't here either." He then smiled at Eric, "I wouldn't worry about the girls. You know Cleo, she always has to be fashionably late to events. She says it makes for a slightly, but not over the top, grander entrance or whatever." He waved a dismissive hand with a short, humoured laugh. Eric laughed and nodded in agreeance. Drago slipped off to the end of the bar where there were no other people standing around before he pulled out his phone and dialled Elijah's mobile number. After a couple rings, Elijah answered, "Father, how is the ball?" "Marvellous. Where are you?" Drago smiled at passing guests but shot a hidden glare into his phone, picturing he could see Elijah through it. "In the study, drafting attack plans." "Forget that and come to the ball. You're half an hour late." Drago snapped, agitated. "Social gatherings aren't my thing, I think I'll skip this one." "You'll do no such thing. Now get your ass out here and show our guests the hospitality they deserve." He growled into the phone, using his Alpha command tone. Elijah clenched his jaw and frowned. He closed his eyes, feeling anger rise in the pit of his stomach. "Fine." He grunted through gritted teeth and hung up the phone. Drago then walked back over to Xavier, Eric and the other Alphas, just as the guards introduced Princess Cleo and Enchantress Pisces. He thought for a moment as the words were announced, he didn't feel that Enchantress Pisces rolled off of the tongue, "Perhaps another title next time." He mentioned to Eric. Eric shrugged, "Whatever she wants her title to be I suppose." Drago was silent as he watched his gorgeous daughter walk down the stairwell with Pisces. His eyes filled with proudness. Cleo and Pisces spotted their fathers, Pisces also saw Xavier, looking very handsome and dashing in his dark suit. He smiled in awe as she walked towards him, equally dazzled by her appearance as she was to his. Cleo picked up a glass of champagne off a passing waiter's tray as they approached their fathers. They half hugged, and kissed cheeks as a greeting. "You girls look beautiful!" Drago beamed. Cleo smiled, "Thanks father." She said while Pisces smiled in thanks. "Pisces, I would love to introduce you to our other honoured guests tonight. This is Alpha George, Alpha Reilly," He first introduced her to the middle-aged Alphas. They each extended a greeting hand, which she shook as she was introduced to each man. Drago then turned to the younger three, "Alpha Asher, Alpha Thomas and Alpha Hendrix." Pisces shook their hands also, each greeting with gentle and welcoming words such as "Pleased to meet you." Or "It's nice to meet you." "Now, sorry to disappear so quickly, but I have some urgent matters to discuss with Beta Eric, Alpha George and Alpha Reilly. We will see you kids later." He smiled and waved as he left. "Cleo I swear you get more and more gorgeous every time I see you." Alpha Hendrix said while looking at Cleo, amazed by her appearance. Cleo smiled, "Aw, thank you." "Would you like to dance?" He then asked, she nodded and took his hand before he led her away onto the dance floor. Pisces looked at the two remaining Alphas and then at Xavier. She couldn't take her eyes off him, while the other two Alpha's tried to strike a conversation up with her. "Hey pretty thing, wanna dance?" Alpha Thomas smirked. Pisces glanced at him only to frown when his gaze dropped to her slightly exposed cleavage. "Last time I checked my eyes were on my face, not my chest." She spoke with irritancy, catching him off guard. He smiled sheepishly and rubbed the back of his neck, completely oblivious to Xavier glowered at him. "I couldn't help it; they were just there." He blurted. Xavier growled threateningly causing him to flinch, startled, his eyes snapped towards Xavier's dark eyes. "S-Sorry Prince Xavier, I mean no disrespect to you." "You mean full disrespect when you disrespect my mate." He growled again. Pisces heart fluttered a little. He called her his mate. She felt a little excited, but also intimidated and scared in a way. She looked back at Thomas to see him cowering and shrinking back into the side of the bar, surprised to discover that she was Xavier's mate. He apologised profusely, Xavier ignored him and turned to Pisces, "Hey... Do you ah, want to dance with me?" He asked, a little nervously. Pisces couldn't help the small smile that twitched at the corner of her lips. She nodded and they walked into the dance floor and started mid dance, a fast-paced waltz. Pisces hadn't danced much before, she only new the basics of what Cleo had shown her over the last couple days, so she made a few mistakes as she went. Her mistakes continued and the pair began to laugh over them, while Xavier still encouraged her, "You're doing great." "I'm a being a klutz not dancing a waltz." Shelaughed. He shook his head and lowered his hand to her lower back to supporther more, his grip slightly tightened on her hand and he guided them across theroom. "So, I guess we should... maybe talk about... us being mates?" She slowlytried to start a new conversation. Xavier smiled and nodded, "So, we're mates." He spoke, also a little unsure what to say. "How do you feel about it?" Pisces thought for a moment, and huffed a little to catch her breath, "I'm interested in getting to know you. I don't really know how I feel being mated to both you and your twin though... I mean, I find that I have this sort of connection and curiosity towards you, I haven't even really met your brother, but I also don't know what to do there? I mean... Ugh, I don't know what I mean." Xavier nodded; his eyebrows knitted together slightly as he thought. "It's a strange situation, that's for sure. My brother doesn't exactly do feelings anymore, now I don't want to tell you what to do, this is entirely your choice, I'll wait for you if you need time to decide, but I draw the line at sharing." He laughed in a half joking tone, half serious tone. Pisces gave a small smile, appreciating that he was trying to keep this topic as light hearted as possible. It took a lot of pressure off her. "Why don't we treat this like how the humans do?" He suddenly suggested. Pisces looked at him questioningly and he elaborated; "Humans go on dates. They get to know someone – usually – before diving into a life-long commitment. I want you to be sure and I want us to get to know one another before any decisions are made." "Won't that drive your wolf a little, I don't know, crazy? I've heard this mate thing is very intense for you Werewolves." "Yeah, it can cause us great pain when things are uncertain, but that's only when we don't accept or reject once we find our mate, when we ourselves are the ones uncertain. I accepted you the moment I met you." He then gave a sweet smile or adoration. Pisces felt her cheeks flush, she felt a little envious of how sure he was, and she felt guilty for not feeling the same. She felt a strong attraction to him, but her mind would not only wonder about him.  "Well, that's good then." She spoke quietly, unsure how to respond. "Have you ever played cards against humanity?" He randomly asked, changing the topic of the conversation. Pisces looked into his brown eyes, intrigued. She shook her head. "Okay I am so showing you this game after the ball." He said with a grin, "Ball afters at mine tonight?" He jokingly smiled. Pisces laughed, "Sure." While the pair were dancing, they did not hearthe entrance guards calling out and welcoming Prince Elijah into the event.Elijah looked around the large room from atop of the stairwell. He froze whenhe saw Xavier and Pisces dancing together. His eyes clung to her and herstunning dress, the glint from the odd sparkle, her hour-glass-figure hiddenunder the black material. He sucked in a sharp breath and he gripped the smoothrail tightly. His wolf paced inside his head, antsy and eager to get to hismate. Elijah internally growled at his wolf to be quiet. He then turned to lookfor his father, he spotted him among a couple of the older Alphas and with BetaEric. He walked towards them, both power and indifference radiated from him. Heignored the swooning female Werewolves and stopped by his father.  He greeted the Alphas hello with a firm handshake. "Elijah, it's good to see you again," George smiled and let go of Elijah's hand. Elijah smiled politely, "Yes, I do hope you've been well since we last spoke?" George nodded, "Absolutely." "Elijah, thank you for joining us." Drago interrupted and gave a smile. Behind his smile hid a dominant glare. Elijah forced a smile, As if I had a choice. He muttered through their mind link. Drago ignored him and started walking, whilst guiding Elijah over towards the bar where two of the younger Alphas stood, drinking, chatting and laughing. "Elijah, you remember Alpha Thomas and Alpha Asher." "How could I forget." Elijah stated rather than asked, in a blunt and unfazed tone. "Why don't you three catch up? Get to know each other more. Have fun!" He smiled at the other two Alphas who smiled in return. Elijah only rolled his eyes to the side, realising that the entire reason why his father wanted him there was to entertain the young and arrogant new Alphas. Drago disappeared seconds later, leaving Elijah there with the two Alphas. Elijah ordered himself a drink of bourbon. "How've you been Elijah? Anything interesting occurring in your life?" Thomas asked. Elijah shrugged, "If you count the new imminent threat of the second great war an interesting occurrence, then sure." Asher laughed, "Oh you jokester." Thomas looked curious, "So no hot babes then?" Elijah was passed his drink by the bar tended. He downed the two standard drinks in one mouthful then placed his short, round, crystal glass on the bar top, the two ice cubes clanked together as he moved it forward in the direction of the bar tender who started to refill his drink. "None worth my time." He muttered. He found his gaze slowly drifting back towards the dance floor where he saw Pisces waltzing away and chatting to his twin brother. "Really? Crystal looks like she'd be a lot of fun. She's been very flirty tonight too." Thomas smirked and looked in the direction of a slim blonde who sat at a table with a couple of her girlfriends. He winked at her while she smiled flirtatiously back at him. "Big titties too." He grinned, causing Asher to laugh. "The t**s on that witch though," he snickered. Elijah glared at him, his wolf growled inside his head, though of course being that it was in his head, the other Alphas did not hear.  "Careful Asha, you don't want that psycho prince to hear you. He looked like he was going to kill me earlier." Thomas laughed. Elijah's only grew further aggravated. He turned to the bar tender and nodded at him to fill the glass to the top. The bar tender was hesitant but obliged, not wanting to insult or anger his prince and future Alpha. Elijah's gaze returned to the dance floor to find that neither Xavier or Pisces were dancing any longer. He looked around to see Xavier standing to the side and chatting with Seth. "I'm going for a smoke," Elijah told Thomas and Asher and then headed for the back glass door which led through to the rose garden and hedge maze. He cursed in his mind at his wolf for wanting to lose control.
