Be My Lady

CHAPTER FIVE

Lim Sara had missed feelings on her way to the sitting room. She just can't remember the last time she entered the sitting room. She was warned by her step mother never to step her foot there ever again. But now, she was invited, Lim Sara couldn't help but have a strange feeling.

‘Is father finally accepting me back?Is he inviting me to tell me he is sorry for treating me badly all these years?’ Lim Sara was lost in her own thoughts, she didn't realize she had got to the sitting room.

She stood at the middle of the sitting room, she scanned every corner of the sitting room. ‘Indeed, there are a lot of changes’, Lim Sara said inwardly. It's been more than ten years since she stepped foot in the sitting room.

Her late mother's portrait that was hanging on the wall was no longer there, rather, it was replaced with Jiang Feng’s.

Her eyes danced around for some minutes before she finally landed them on the people in the sitting room.

Her eyes darted from her Father Lim Chen, then to her step mother Jiang Feng, then to her Step brother Lim Mingche, then it finally settled at her step sister, Lim Mu.

Suddenly, she saw a familiar face, sitting beside Lim Mu.

Lim Sara couldn't hold her smile when she saw that face, she had missed him so much. It was her Boyfriend, An Ken Zi. She was about to walk towards him when a scene broke her heart : he was holding Lim Mu so intimately.

Lim Sara's heart couldn't beat for a minute. She looked at them in disbelief.

“ What's going on here Ken Zi?” She asked in a trembling voice. She was scared of what was coming.

Lim Chen stood up from where he was seated, and walked to Lim Sara. Lim Sara could see the hatred in his eyes.

“Sara, An Ken Zi and Mu are planning to get married soon. You need to stop bugging An Ken Zi from now on,” Lim Chen said in a harsh tone.

Lim Sara couldn't pick any sense from what her father just said . It sounded like a foreign language to her. She looked at An Ken Zi, expecting an explanation from him but he was busy pecking Lim Mu at the back of her hand.

She suddenly heard Jiang Feng's voice.

“ Sara, you need to understand that somethings aren't meant to be.”

Jiang Feng looked at her daughter and An Ken Zi, and smiled like a proud mother.

“Your sister and An Ken Zi are a perfect match made from heaven, let's give them our blessings.” Jiang Feng added.

Lim Sara felt a persistent, tight ache in her chest, as if she had been punched or a heavy weight is sitting on her ribs, making it hard for her to breathe deeply. She walked to An Ken Zi in shaking legs, she didn't bother about the glare Lim Mu was sending to her.

“ Ken Zi, please if there's anything I did that I'm not aware of, please forgive me,” she said between sobs.

An Ken Zi looked at her face with disgust, the words he said next shattered her completely.

“ I never loved you Lim Sara, my eyes have always been on Lim Mu, she is the type of woman I want by my side. Digest that and stop pestering me,” he spat out angrily.

Lim Sara couldn't believe her ears, she loved the man so much, she always imagined herself sharing a future together with him.

“ Ken Zi please, teach me to be the woman you want. I'm ready to learn and be the woman you desire,” she said in a pitifully tone.

Lim Chen rushed to her in anger, and landed a heavy slap across her face, causing her to stagger.

“ Lim Sara don't be as greedy as your mother!!!, Lim Chen shrieked.

Lim Sara immediately switched from calm to defensive at the mention of her late Mother, prioritizing her late mother's honor above all. Her tone becomes sudden, harsh, and cutting.

“ Don't you dare talk about my mother in such manner, Mr Lim!!!” She shouted at the top of her lungs.

Lim Chen and the others couldn't believe their eyes. They've never seen Lim Sara being so hostile.

Lim Sara walked to Jiang Feng who was looking at her in disbelief. Lim Sara had never challenged anybody before. But today, she dare shouted at her father.

“ You took my family. My happiness. Everything.” She tightened her fist until her knuckles turned white. “ Aren't you tired of causing me pain?” Lim Sara asked.

“ Don't you dare speak to my mother like that Sara!” Lim Mingche suddenly spoke, and stepped forward.

Lim Mu also stepped forward.

There was a smile of satisfaction in Jiang Feng's lips. But she quickly hid it. She stepped forward, pretending to be a good step mother.

“ Sara, Lim Mu is your elder sister, her happiness should matter to you as well”. Jiang Feng said.

“ Sara that's true, Ken Zi and I love each other, please don't come between us”. Lim Mu said, trying to gain everyone's pity.

Seeing her beginning Lim Sara broke An Ken Zi's heart. He pulled her into a tight hug.

“ Don't worry Mu, nothing is going to come between us” He said calmly and glared at Lim Sara.

Jiang Feng was so happy with An Ken Zi doting on her daughter. ‘The An Construction company recently broke into the top ten construction firms in the country. I will never allow Lim Sara to be the young Mrs An. My daughter is the perfect woman for that position. The Lim construction company is having issues and couldn't meet up. I believe once my daughter marries into the An Family, the An Family will lift the Lim up. I'm doing all this for my son, Lim Mingche’ Jiang Feng smiled at her thoughts but she hid her smile not letting anybody see it.

Lim Sara's heart sanked watching An Ken Zi and Lim Mu hugging each other. An Ken Zi had never treated her with so much love like this before. Looking at it all now, he actually never loved her.

Lim Sara ran out of the sitting room in heavy tears, feeling depressed and drained.
