Upon arriving home, I'd sprawled out on the bed in the alpha suite, while Gale got comfortable on the sofa in the entry room, both of us intent on pouring over the ledgers. Several hours later and no closer to finding answers, my resolution began to dissolve as Gale flopped down next to me on his stomach. He attempted to look studious, grabbing one of the books from the stack and opening it, rifling through its pages in attempt to find something that stuck out to him. He flipped the page, and wriggled slightly, inching closer and closer to me with each turn of the page.
"Are you trying to help me or distract me, because I'm not sure I can see the difference." I laughed.
He deflected the question. "You have such a pretty laugh." he smiled, his eyes twinkling with mischief.
