Annie swallowed hard as the implications of what Nathan wasn’t saying out loud hit her like a punch in the solar plexus.
Oh, my God… does Nathan think there’s someone on our side feeding Javier information?
But she knew he couldn’t confirm her suspicions, so she kept her voice level and even when she answered.
“I get it now, Nathan. Truly. And I’ll pack up and head out to Mom and Dad’s tonight.”
He smiled for the first time since she’d walked into his office.
“Knowing that you’ll be safer takes a huge weight off my shoulders, Annie. Thank you.”
“Do you think it’d be smart to have someone ride back to Lizzie’s house with me so I’m not alone there?”
