“Only two or three, in addition to the two of us,” Zarek replied. Both he and Lucien would have to attend: the alpha in order to gain his werewolf subjects’ trust and the beta because he had long been leading the investigation surrounding the rogue attacks. If they took too many additional warriors with them then they ran the risk of inadvertently threatening their werewolf allies, but if they took none at all they’d be at a disadvantage when splitting up to obtain information, let alone if another attack were to occur. Hence they needed to select a small, skilled entourage.
