The atmosphere was thick with resentment. To everyone watching, Serena was Feifei’s lackey; by striking Serena’s face, Chloe Bishop was effectively slapping Feifei’s as well.
"Am I being a bully?" Chloe asked, turning an innocent gaze toward Lyra.
Lyra shook her head vigorously. "Of course not! How could we be the bullies? Serena was the one acting like a stray dog, chasing us down the track with her constant provocations. A sickly cat tried to pull a tiger’s whiskers and got swiped—that’s just a death wish, not bullying."
Lyra then turned to the crowd of watching racers. "You all saw how arrogant Serena was just a few minutes ago. She clearly thought she could pick on Chloe because she’s a newcomer, but she overplayed her hand and got crushed. Can you really blame us for that?"
The crowd answered in a thunderous unison: "No!"
Most of the spectators were clear-headed. They had witnessed Serena's insufferable behavior from the start. Now that she had lost, she wanted to play the victim to wiggle out of the bet? It wasn't going to be that easy.
Even the other female drivers couldn't stand it. "A loss is a loss," one shouted. "Is it really that hard to just admit you failed and call her 'Grandpa'?"
"Exactly! We’re all adults here," another added. "Crying after a race you begged for is pathetic. Serena, stop embarrassing all the female drivers in the circuit."
Serena felt like she was being stripped bare by their words, but she knew that if she uttered that word today, she would never be able to hold her head up in the racing world again.
Seeing her friend cornered, Feifei spoke up again, her voice sharp with accusation. "Chloe, you knew perfectly well that the skill gap between you and Serena was massive. Why did you lure her into such a bet? Weren't you just trying to humiliate her on purpose?"
With those words, Feifei tried to paint Chloe as a villain, using the word "lure" to make the entire race seem like a malicious trap.
Serena immediately caught on, crying out in grievance. "That’s it! You were getting back at me for offending you earlier. You intentionally drove slow to bait me into the bet just so you could get revenge. Chloe Bishop, you’re despicable!"
"Wow, talk about turning black into white!" Lyra was nearly shaking with rage. "I’ve seen plenty of 'White Lotuses' and 'Green Tea Bitches' in my time, but you two are high-level professionals at it. Your shamelessness is truly impressive."
Feifei’s face darkened instantly, while Serena snapped, "Who are you calling a b***h?"
Before Lyra could fire back, Chloe finally spoke. "The truth is clear to everyone here. If I were truly malicious, the stakes of the bet would have been the loser leaving the racing world forever."
She looked directly at her cousin, her eyes cold. "Cousin, your words are baffling. She was the one who provoked me, yet somehow it’s my fault? In front of all these witnesses, you can actually say something so twisted? It’s truly embarrassing for you."
Feifei’s face turned a sickly shade of purple, unable to find a single word to refute the logic. Flushed with anger, she grabbed Serena’s arm. "We’re leaving."
"Wait. She can't leave yet."
Chloe’s voice was calm, but her finger was pointed firmly at Serena.
Feifei spun around, her voice rising in fury. "What more do you want?"
But before the words even left her mouth, she was shocked to see a large group of racers move in unison. They stepped forward, blocking the path and surrounding Serena. It was clear—Serena’s behavior had sparked public outrage.
Even Mr. Reed, the manager of the West City Racetrack, couldn't stay silent any longer. He looked at Serena with a cold, professional disappointment. "Accepting defeat is the most basic requirement for any racer. If you don't even have that much integrity, you have no business being a professional driver."
The pressure in the pit lane was reaching a boiling point. With the track manager himself weighing in and the crowd blocking her exit, Serena was backed into a corner. Will she finally swallow her pride and utter the word "Grandpa," or will Feifei find a way to escalate this into a full-blown family war?
