Chloe glanced at her best friend, then gestured with icy indifference toward the trembling, purple-faced Julian Lang. "This 'healer of souls' right here just informed me that he’s willing to pay two thousand dollars a month to keep me. Apparently, him taking an interest in me is a blessing I’ve earned through eight previous lifetimes of good deeds."
Lyra froze for a heartbeat before exploding into a fit of hysterical, rib-shattering laughter. She bent over, clutching her stomach, actually wiping genuine tears of mirth from the corners of her eyes. "Two thousand? Two thousand? Oh my god, Doctor... are you trying to kill me with a punchline?"
The searing mockery from Chloe and the boisterous laughter from Lyra were like physical slaps to Julian’s ego. His face went from purple to a sickly ashen gray. He threw a venomous glare at Chloe, his voice shaking with suppressed rage. "You... you just wait. You’ll regret this."
He turned on his heel and attempted to storm out of the suite to salvage what was left of his dignity. However, the moment he stepped past the threshold, a hand clamped onto his collar with the strength of a vice, nearly hoisting him off the floor.
Julian let out a strangled yelp of terror, his eyes bulging. He expected a massive security guard, but found himself staring into the cold, lethal eyes of a woman—a strikingly beautiful woman with an aura of tempered steel.
Sarah looked down at the man dangling from her grip, her expression one of utter disdain. "The conversation isn't over yet, 'Doctor.' Where exactly do you think you're going?"
In the background, Lyra’s laughter was still echoing through the ward. "Two thousand... haha... I can't... is he serious?"
Julian found his voice, though it cracked with panic. "Let go of me! I’ll sue you for assaulting a medical professional!" He thrashed against her hold, but Sarah didn't budge an inch.
Having graduated from a top military academy and standing at nearly six feet in her designer heels, Sarah towered over the man. Her natural strength was far superior to his soft, pampered physique. She looked at him as if he were a particularly repulsive insect. "By all means, scream louder," she invited, her voice a low, dangerous vibration. "I’d love for the entire hospital staff to come witness this comedy show."
With a sharp, dismissive motion, Sarah "tossed" Julian back into the room. He stumbled, barely catching himself against the foot of the bed. Sarah stepped inside, her sharp eyes scanning Chloe. "Give me the short version. What happened?"
"He overheard my call with Lyra and decided I was a penniless girl from the provinces who couldn't even settle her own deposit," Chloe explained, her fingers working to untangle the IV line from her hand. After this, there was no way she was staying in this facility. "He saw me alone and decided I was ripe for a 'sponsorship'."
Lyra finally managed to catch her breath, dabbing her eyes with a silk handkerchief. "God, it’s been years since I’ve seen someone this spectacularly blind. He looks so educated, yet he’s a total i***t. Sarah, let’s teach this little landlord how the real world works."
"My thoughts exactly," Sarah replied, a cold, predatory smile touching her lips. She lunged forward, grabbing Julian by the collar again and dragging him toward the door like a sack of laundry.
Julian was terrified now, the realization hitting him that he was physically helpless against this woman. "I’m warning you! Put me down! You’re being barbaric! I'll call the police!"
Sarah didn't even look at him. "Go ahead. I’m dying to see the police report for 'Attempted Bribery of a Patient.' In the meantime..." She reached down, ripped the plastic ID badge from his chest, and tossed it to Lyra. "Lyra, run his name. I want to know exactly how many vulnerable patients this 'healer' has tried to buy during his shifts."
"On it!" Lyra chirped, already dialing her family's private investigators.
Standing in the shadows of the hallway, Yvonne Blue watched the scene unfold with a mixture of shock and dark delight. She had come to the hospital to change her dressings and perhaps offer a few more "pitying" words to the Chloe Bishop she thought had been abandoned by Xavier Grayson. She never expected to stumble upon a scene this explosive.
Today’s trip was definitely worth the effort, Yvonne thought, a small, triumphant smile playing on her lips as she pulled out her phone to record the doctor's disgrace.
The Reckoning of the "Golden Boy"
Julian Lang’s carefully constructed world is collapsing in real-time. He tried to exploit a woman he thought was weak, only to find himself in the crosshairs of the three most powerful women in the city. With Sarah’s military-grade pressure and Lyra’s financial reach, his career and his family’s reputation are being dismantled before he can even reach the elevators.
But as Sarah drags the disgraced doctor through the hospital corridors and Yvonne Blue captures the humiliation on film, a familiar, high-performance engine roars to life in the parking lot below. Xavier Grayson’s security detail has returned, and they aren't alone. How will the "Demon CEO" react when he finds his wife’s ward turned into a battlefield, and a doctor’s hands have been all over her?
Will Xavier let Sarah finish the job, or will he demand a more "permanent" kind of silence from Julian Lang?
