Sophie asked in surprise, “Did you take some kind of drug to cause mental confusion?”
Not long ago, Ethan had tried to kill her with a gun, and now he was apologizing?
Unfortunately, Sophie no longer trusted him.
In her previous life, Ethan had also used this tactic: after ruthlessly bullying her, he would offer a half-hearted apology. Each time, Sophie’s heart softened, and she ended up forgiving him.
Ethan looked guilty and explained, “I haven’t taken anything. I’m telling the truth. You are my sister, and I just want to be good to you.”
Sophie responded coldly, “There’s no need for that.” Her tone carried no warmth. “I’m going out. Don’t stand in my way.”
Ethan hurriedly asked, “Where are you going? Shall I accompany you?”
Sophie’s cold gaze swept over Ethan’s injured legs, and she sneered, “You’re just a cripple, and you want to go out with me?”
Seeing the indifference in Sophie’s eyes, so different from the closeness of before, Ethan’s heart ached painfully, nearly to the point of collapse.
He lowered his head, looking utterly desolate, his tone pleading, “Sophie, my legs are injured. Could you stay with me for a while?”
In the past life, when Ethan was injured, Sophie stayed by his side day and night, patiently comforting him in his breakdowns. She never could bear to see him sad.
But now, Sophie coldly replied, “Even if your legs are crippled, don’t come looking for me. I don’t want to see you again.”
With that, Sophie walked around Ethan and left Sterling Manor without a backward glance.
Watching Sophie’s departing figure, Ethan’s eyes reddened.
He couldn’t understand why Sophie had become so different. She used to like him so much, and now she completely ignored him.
Ethan felt as though a knife was twisting in his heart, the pain unbearable.
Lina had remained silent, listening to Ethan and Sophie’s conversation. She asked, puzzled, “General Sterling, isn’t your sister Miss Isabelle?”
Wasn’t General Sterling very displeased with Miss Sophie?
Ethan replied coldly, “My biological sister is Sophie. Don’t get it wrong. From now on, you’re not allowed to bully Sophie. Otherwise, get out of the Sterling family.”
Lina promptly nodded, “Yes.”
Sophie went out and arrived at a pharmacy, reciting a long list of drug names.
After the staff packed the medication and handed it over, Sophie reached out to take it. Suddenly, another hand reached out and snatched the package of medicine away.
Sophie looked up and saw Damien.
Damien’s eyes were deep-set, his features well-defined. He gazed coldly at Sophie, his voice low and icy, “I heard you bullied Isabelle. Isabelle is my fiancée, the woman I love most. I warn you to recognize your own status and not touch her, or I won’t let you off!”
Sophie said nothing in return.
She hadn’t expected to run into Damien here.
Damien had always liked Isabelle and often ridiculed Sophie for Isabelle’s sake.
Sophie responded disdainfully, “Who you like has nothing to do with me. I’m not interested in you, so stop being so full of yourself.”
Damien snorted coldly, “This pharmacy belongs to the Winter family. You have no right to buy anything here. You’ve dirtied the Winter family’s territory. Get lost, and don’t ever let me see you again.”
Sophie couldn’t be bothered to argue with Damien and turned away to leave.
Damien’s assistant looked at him and said in a low voice, “Mr. Winter, I just found out that the most famous doctor in Freedomland was spotted here earlier. We rushed over but didn’t see that doctor—only Sophie. Could it be that Sophie is that doctor?”
Damien frowned, a look of disdain on his face. “It’s impossible for Sophie to be Freedomland’s top doctor. It’s just a coincidence that she appeared here. That doctor must have already left. We arrived too late.”
The assistant cautiously reminded, “Old Lady Winter has still not awakened from her coma. The Winter family’s medical consultant has stated that we must find that top-tier doctor from Freedomland as soon as possible. Only that doctor can rouse Old Lady Winter.”
“If we fail to find this doctor within six months, Old Lady Winter may never wake up.”
Irritated, Damien waved his hand and gave a cold command. “Keep searching. We must find that doctor within six months. There’s an auction next week, and I’ve heard they’ll have pills developed by this doctor. I’ll attend the auction.”
Damien’s mother had been in a vegetative state since a car accident half a year ago, showing no signs of regaining consciousness.
Damien had spent six months searching but found no clues.
He thought this time he might finally make some progress, only to rush here and find only Sophie, that woman.
Sophie had snatched away everything belonging to Isabelle. How infuriating.
Sophie switched to another pharmacy and purchased a large quantity of medicines. She needed to prepare and store these pills in her medical kit to feel secure.
Recently, Sophie had used up quite a bit of her stock and needed to replenish it quickly.
As Sophie left the pharmacy to head home, she ran into Julian by chance.
Julian was sitting in a car with the window rolled down, revealing his handsome profile.
Sophie walked up to the car door and smiled. “Brigadier Hawke, we meet again.”
Julian turned his head and saw Sophie’s smile. Her eyes were bright, her smile pure, her face beautiful—everything seemed so perfect.
Julian coldly averted his gaze. “What do you want?”
Sophie gazed at Julian. “I came out to buy medicine and happened to run into you. Where are you going? Why not give me a ride home?”
“I’ve never seen anyone so shameless,” Julian said flatly, “Hurry up and leave, stay away from me.”
Sophie thickened her skin and said, “Sir, don’t be so heartless. I did save your life, after all.”
With that, Sophie tried the back door and, to her surprise, it opened. She cheerfully got in and sat right beside Julian. “Thank you, Brigadier Hawke.”
If she remained reserved, how would she get close to Julian and find out the truth from her previous life?
Julian’s assistant, Stan Blythe, was in the driver’s seat. He glanced at Sophie through the rearview mirror, looking stunned.
Who on earth was this woman?
Stan asked, “Sir, where to?”
Sophie answered first, “Sterling Manor.”
Seeing that Julian did not object, Stan started the engine and drove toward Sterling Manor.
Along the way, Stan noticed two cars tailing them closely, his expression turning grim. He suddenly jerked the steering wheel, made a turn, and sped up!
Sophie also noticed the cars behind them and raised an eyebrow. “Brigadier Hawke, who did you offend? So many people are out to kill you?”
Julian didn’t want to answer Sophie’s question. His tone was icy. “You insisted on getting into my car, so you’ll bear the consequences.”
Sophie nodded indifferently.
Stan drove at high speed. Two cars appeared ahead, blocking their path.
Stan continued accelerating, heading straight for those two cars.
“Bang—”
The two cars were knocked aside, while Julian’s car remained intact and continued forward.
Sophie wasn’t wearing a seatbelt.
Suddenly, the car jolted violently.
Sophie was thrown in Julian’s direction. She did not resist; instead, she exerted subtle force and fell into Julian’s arms, clutching his clothes.
Julian’s body emitted a faint pleasant scent, with a hint of blood mixed in.
Stan was shocked by this scene.
Would Brigadier Hawke really spare this bold woman?
Previously, women who attempted to approach Brigadier Hawke were dealt with mercilessly.
Julian was also momentarily stunned. Sophie’s body was soft, carrying a subtle fragrance. Julian quickly recovered, pushing Sophie away, his attitude distant and cold, “Sit properly.”
Sophie smiled lightly, “We’ve already slept together, why are you shy?”
Stan was astonished.
Brigadier Hawke had actually slept with this woman?
Julian said coldly, “Don’t talk nonsense.”
Sophie didn’t tease Julian further. After sitting properly, she glanced at the mirror and saw the chasing cars. She pursed her lips slightly, “Sir, they’re about to shoot. Leave those people behind us to you.”
Julian drew a gun, aimed at the convoy behind, and pulled the trigger four times.
“Bang—”
The tires of the two cars behind blew out, their wheels scraping the ground with a piercing sound.
At that moment, Sophie keenly sensed that Julian’s car was at risk of exploding. Her face changed instantly, “Brigadier Hawke, your car is going to explode!”
“Go!” Julian pushed the door open, pulling Sophie out quickly. Stan followed closely.
After the three got out, they ran as hard as they could for some distance before the car exploded.
“Boom!”
The car blew apart, smoke billowing.
Hearing the loud blast, Sophie’s scalp tingled. She clung tightly to Julian’s clothes.
Suddenly, a bullet whistled toward Julian’s forehead.
Sophie’s expression changed drastically. She lunged forward and placed herself in front of Julian!
