“Sophie, what are you doing?” Ethan strode into the room, and upon seeing Lydia’s corpse, his face changed dramatically. He immediately shouted at Sophie in fury, “You killed Lydia? Are you crazy?”
Sophie raised her head and looked coldly at this so-called brother, letting out a mocking laugh. “Yes, I’m crazy. What do you plan to do about it?”
Sophie would never forget Ethan’s words at the final moment of her previous life.
Ethan had actually told her to hurry up and die.
Sophie swore that she would exact revenge from each and every member of the Sterling family who owed her a debt!
Ethan was momentarily stunned by Sophie’s indifferent gaze.
When Sophie first returned to the Sterling family, she wore a bright, innocent smile. Yet at that time, there was a distinct rustic air about her, making her unfit for high society. Whenever she looked at him, it was always with a fawning, humble expression. Her manners were coarse, her voice soft and timid, tinged with insecurity.
Ethan could never warm up to her.
And now, Sophie dared to look at him so coldly, even speaking to him rudely. It was simply incomprehensible!
Ethan frowned, displeased. “Who gave you permission to speak to me like that? You’ve just returned to the Sterling family and already killed Lydia. You must pay for this!”
With that, Ethan lunged forward, raising his hand as if to strike Sophie’s face.
Sophie quickly caught Ethan’s hand and forcefully bent it back.
“Slap—”
Ethan’s own hand landed on his face.
Ethan stared, dumbfounded and incredulous. “Sophie, what’s gotten into you? Let go of me and apologize right now! Otherwise, I’ll no longer acknowledge you as my sister!”
“Who cares?” Sophie released his hand with contempt and stepped back twice, her voice icy. “Ethan, from this day forward, you are no longer my brother. You are not worthy!”
Sophie’s voice was cold, yet it rang in Ethan’s ears like a sudden clap of thunder.
Ethan froze for a moment, “Do you realize what you’re saying?”
Sophie really had gone mad!
She actually dared to say he wasn’t fit to be her brother!
Sophie’s face held no emotion. Her tone was frigid. “I have no brother like you.”
Ethan frowned.
This was not how Sophie should behave. Just the day before, she had still been calling him “brother” so warmly.
How could her attitude change so drastically in just one day?
Ethan’s gaze fell on the corpses of those two men and Lydia. “Lydia was a noble lady of the Everly family. Now that you’ve killed her, you’re finished.”
He flung this cold remark at her and turned to leave.
Sophie paid it no mind.
Freedomland was a place with great freedom, allowing people to carry firearms. Here, whoever had the stronger fist held the power to speak.
Sophie went under the bed, opened a trunk, took out a bottle of dissolving agent, and poured it over the three corpses.
Soon, the bodies vanished, turning into a puddle of water.
Next, Sophie picked up a computer, tapped on it a few times, altered the surveillance system to erase Lydia’s presence, and sent a message to Matthew Everly.
Sophie stood up and walked out of the room.
Two tall bodyguards stood at the door. “General Sterling said you can’t leave; you must stay in this room.”
Sophie coldly kicked them away.
“Bang—”
The two bodyguards were sent flying.
Looking down at them, Sophie sneered, “You think you can stop me?”
In her previous life, Sophie had been completely unguarded and drank the drugged water Isabelle had prepared for her, leaving her weak and defenseless.
But this time, Sophie had returned in peak form.
She swore that this time, she would never let anyone hurt her again.
Stepping over the two bodyguards, Sophie left the room.
The two guards, their faces pale from pain, couldn’t get up. They could only watch Sophie depart with eyes wide open.
Sophie headed to the first-floor living room.
Lina Frost approached her, eyes filled with disdain. “Lord Sterling wants you in the study. Hurry up.”
Lina had clearly sensed that Augustus, Seraphina, and the seven major generals all disliked Sophie, so she saw no need to be polite.
Sophie raised her hand and slapped Lina across the face, her gaze cold. “Next time you see me, show some respect. Don’t make me feel sick.”
“Smack—”
The crisp sound of a slap echoed in the air.
Lina, stunned and covering her face in disbelief, cried out, “How dare you hit me?”
Sophie slapped Lina again. “Yes, I did hit you. What of it?”
Facing Sophie’s icy gaze, Lina felt an abrupt chill engulf her body, rendering her nearly speechless.
Sophie stepped around Lina and walked into Augustus’s study.
Inside were Augustus, Seraphina, and Ethan.
Sophie dragged a chair over to her side and sat down lazily. “You wanted to see me?”
“You murderer!” Augustus roared in anger. “I heard from Ethan that you killed Lydia. Don’t you know Lydia was the eldest daughter of the Everly family? You killed her—how is the Sterling family supposed to explain this to the Everly family?”
Sophie stared at his face, hate surging within her.
Her father had long since stood on Isabelle’s side.
In her previous life, Sophie had desperately sought his approval, only to be met with beatings and insults, never once treated as a daughter.
Now, Sophie no longer cared about him at all!
Sophie spoke calmly, “She’s already dead. What is there to explain?”
Augustus never expected Sophie to say something like that.
When he first met Sophie, she was sweet and charming, calling him “Daddy” with gentle admiration in her eyes.
Yet now, Sophie coldly contradicted him.
She even dared to justify her killing!
Augustus was furious. “Sophie, I brought you back to the Sterling family not so you could stir up such grave trouble. You’d better give me an explanation, or get out of the Sterling family!”
At the moment, Sophie had no intention of leaving.
Before her revenge was complete, she would remain in the Sterling estate.
She would plunge the Sterling family into chaos and make them regret ever coming into this world.
She took out her phone and played the recording of those two ugly men. “Lydia hired two people to rape me. Should she not have died for that?”
“Lydia intended to harm me, and I caught her in the act. That I could kill her so easily proves she lacked the ability to resist. She deserved to die.”
After listening to the recording, Augustus was stunned, but he still believed that killing wasn’t the solution.
Seeing Sophie show no remorse, he grew livid, face dark with anger. “The Sterling family and the Everly family have an important partnership. Lydia died here in our home. If the Everly family finds out, how can we continue this cooperation?”
Sophie replied coolly, “Then don’t let them find out. Lydia’s body is gone. No one can find her. Even if the Everly family suspects something, they need evidence.”
“What?” Augustus exclaimed in shock. “You destroyed Lydia’s body? You really mean to ruin the Sterling family!”
Sophie showed no fear. “What’s done is done. Now the only option is to keep it concealed. If the Everly family learns of it and ends the partnership, that’s none of my concern.”
Augustus was so furious he nearly lost reason, his finger trembling as he pointed at Sophie. “You—”
Suddenly, Augustus felt short of breath and couldn’t speak.
Seraphina gently patted Augustus’s back, signaling him not to get too worked up.
As Augustus slowly regained his composure, he said coldly, “You caused Lydia’s death. You must pay the price!”
