CHAPTER 7-The First Glance

The following day, Amina began her assigned area. She cleaned the necessary place and the whole floor, you could even see your reflection. She wanted to rest but couldn't afford to be caught on her first working day. Then she saw him before she realized who he was. Amina had been focused on her work, carefully wiping the polished surface of a long hallway table, when footsteps echoed behind her. Not rushed. Not careless. Measured. She stepped aside immediately, lowering her gaze. Respect. That’s what she had been taught. But something made her look up. Just for a second. And that was enough. He didn’t look like the stories. They said he was arrogant, prideful and looked down on those that doesn't matter. But they were wrong. No exaggerated pride. No careless arrogance. Just… presence. The kind that made space feel smaller without effort. Their eyes met briefly. And in that single moment— Something shifted. Not dramatically. Not obviously. But enough to leave a trace. He didn’t stop. Didn’t speak. Just walked past like she was part of the background. Which, to him, she was. Amina exhaled slowly, only then realizing she had been holding her breath. She returned to her work. But her hands weren’t as steady anymore.
