Chapter 10 April 29 It’s been a couple of weeks since my sister’s birthday party, and things around the house have been miserable. I came to the growing realization that things with my parents aren’t going to get better. There have been days of screaming followed by even worse days of brutal silence. It feels as though this is a new phase in their relationship war, maybe even the end game. My dad spends more and more time at work. When he’s home, he broods in front of the TV, with a beer can in one hand and a pall of smoke over his head. My mom puts on a brave face in front of us, but she barely keeps it together most days.
