Chapter 19 Pain flared at my elbow as we crossed the threshold between worlds, and I clenched my teeth together to keep from crying out. Then the enormity of where I was spread out before me, washing over my senses, and my momentary discomfort was forgotten. Elfhame. I stared at the huge evergreens rising around us. They grew three times taller than those of the Darkwood, their feathery tops nearly brushing the stars. Those stars were flecks of silver in a deep purple sky. There was no moon, but the land was filled with soft radiance. Nodding, bell-like flowers beneath the trees glowed as if their petals were lit from within by tiny candles.
