Chapter 7 Neeve left shortly thereafter, taking half the sweets with her. I was glad—neither of us had eaten much at supper, and she’d be hungry later, if she wasn’t already. As soon as she was gone, I curled up in the chair again, nibbling on a candied fruit. A soft thump came from the bedroom—the sound of a cat vacating the bed. A moment later, Trisk hopped into the sitting room. She regarded me with her unblinking gaze, and I patted my lap. “Come up?” I suggested. She made a soft mew and headed for the door, then settled beside it with an expectant air. “Very well.” I was a little put out that she was abandoning me. “Go stalk the halls if you must.
