That night after dinner, the king gave me back the little red recipe book, which he’d been keeping in his study. Along with the book, I received a very stern warning to do no harm to Castle Raine or its inhabitants.
I promised I’d only practice my sorcerous powers at Mistress Ainya’s cottage, with her supervision, and that seemed to satisfy Lord Raine. It was an easy vow to make—nobody, myself included, wanted to see me accidentally burn the castle down.
