Chapter 25 It seemed we’d lingered over dinner longer than I’d thought. The corridors of the Nightshade Court were dim and quiet, with no courtiers going about their business. We left Kian at his rooms, and then the guard escorted me and Neeve to our doors and departed with a bow of farewell. “Good night,” I said to my stepsister as I went into my room, though it was neither night nor particularly good. I still felt unsteady from the wine, and cold fear trickled through me at the thought of the Oracles’ arrival. I had no doubt they planned to test me in some way, to see if I could serve as an anchor point for the gateway between the worlds. Would their evaluation hurt?
