CHAPTER NINETEEN
The following week, Anna was constantly bustling about. Alva came to visit, introducing her to a New York lawyer, a Mr. Henry Gilbert. He was well versed in Rhode Island divorce laws and Anna felt comfortable with his competency. They were sitting at the table in Margaret’s dining room, at least Anna and Mr. Gilbert were. Alva was pacing the room like a caged lion.
“Anna, Henry will be a great help to you to keep your husband at bay. We can’t let him get even one scintilla of an upper hand.”
“I appreciate that, Alva, but I really don’t think we will have that much trouble with Will.”
“He’s a man, isn’t he?” she said, slapping her hands on the table, making both Anna and Mr. Gilbert jump. “Forewarned is forearmed.” She slapped the table again.
