_Aria’s POV_
The entire world had gone quiet when I opened my eyes but all that greeted me was darkness.
“They could have bothered to leave the room lights on,” I muttered under my breath as I pushed to my feet.
But it didn’t matter much to me. Now, let’s get out of here.
It has been thirty minutes since the last guard left and no one else has come to take over.
A maid had come in over an hour ago to check on me, and I had pretended to be in a deep sleep.
I was going to leave tonight, and nothing
would stop me.
Groaning, I stretched my back, listening in satisfaction as my bones cracked.
That asshole really made me sleep on the floor, how was I expected to sleep in such an uncomfortable position?
I didn’t realize how privileged I was until I was turning and turning for hours straight.
I wouldn’t even be able to sleep if I wanted to.
Time to get out of here.
I reached into the waist of my pants, pulling out the small safety pin someone had forgotten there.
Maybe they thought it was too small to bother with, but I was going to turn it into a weapon.
Inserting the pin into the cuffs, I bit my lips as I turned it in different directions.
It took a full five minutes before the cuff fell to the floor and I almost yelled in victory.
But that was just the beginning of my plan.
The next thing to do?
Leave.
I sniffed my clothes and was immediately repulsed by the smell that came out of them.
When last did I shower?
My eyes fell on the direction of the bathroom door and I felt tempted to have a quick shower, but I knew thay would be a huge mistake.
So instead, I slowly walked towards the door.
Letting out a breath as I grab the door handle, I made a cross sign.
I'd better not get caught.
Wincing, I turned the door handle slowly, pulling it open a little bit as I poked my head out.
No one.
I looked the other way to be sure. No one still standing there.
The hallway was free.
And you know what happens when the hallway gets free? I get free.
Slowly, I pushed myself through the tiny gap, closing the door as quietly as I could.
Everywhere was dead silent, one wrong move from me and everyone would hear it.
That’s why I had to be careful.
I had just taken a careful step forward when I realized, I had no idea where I was going.
Which was the way out again?
When I was being dragged here, I hadn’t bothered to check and now I was confused.
Left or right?
I asked, as my eyes darted between both directions.
Einie, Minnie, mani, mo!
I thought suddenly, going in the direction my finger stopped at.
Waiting there was only going to lower my chances. And if my chances were wrong.
I go the other way.
I walked down the hallway carefully, leaning towards the wall as I tried to keep myself hidden.
I had no idea where I was going and who was going to be there, it was best to stay out of sight until I found a way out.
When I got to the staircase, I let out a sigh of relief as I rushed down.
This felt too easy, but I wasn’t about to complain about that.
I was halfway down the stairs when a door opened and I froze midstep.
My heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach as I stared in the direction of where the door had opened
Well f**k.
I could hear footsteps coming towards me and I didn’t know if to run back up or go down and hide.
At this point, my heart was beating so loudly, whoever had stepped out would probably hear it beating befpre the saw me.
And so I took the steps three at a time as I jumped down, rushing towards a corner to hide.
“Did you hear something?” I heard a male voice ask another and I held my breath.
“Not at all. Stop hearing things, I just want to sleep.” The second person said, waving his hand.
He seemed like he was tired and didn’t even want to bother with the investigation.
“Should we go check on the girl?” The first person asked once more and I almost cursed loudly.
He was just about to spoil my plans.
I looked around, searching for some sort of weapon. I was just about to grab a vase when the other one replied.
“No. Let’s leave her. It’s not like she can escape if she wants to. Even if she does leave this house. Peanut butter wouldn’t let her leave the compound.”
Peanut butter? What the f**k was peanut butter?
I didn’t have the luxury to ask them, but I was happy they weren’t going to check on me.
When they both had gone out of sight, I made a beeline for the door.
Grunting, I pulled the bolt that held the door shut, turning the key in the same breath.
All this security for a house filled with guns?
After one final click, the door was finally unlocked and I pushed it open.
I couldn’t rejoice just yet. I’ve been through this before, and I had to make sure I got out.
Slipping through the door, I felt the cold air hit me and I sucked in a breath.
I could fear a dramatic tear rolling down my face.
Was this what Eren Yeager always spoke of? Freedom.
And then I ran. Towards the gate, away from my room.
Even if I have to jump over the fence, I wouldn’t mind doing that.
Luckily for me, the compound was illuminated with light and I could see my way to freedom.
I was running when I froze in my tracks, squinting my eyes at two glowing bulbs in the distance.
What in the world was that?
A low growl startled me, and I took a cautious step backwards.
But the glow seemed to be getting closer and closer.
When it finally stepped into the light, all the colors in my face drained.
What the f**k.
My heart dropped to the bottom of my stomach and I took a cautious step backwards
“Easy doggy… good doggy..”
I think I finally figured out what peanut butter was.
Because standing a few yards away from me was a black cane corso, staring at me like I was its next meal.
Peanut butter growled once more before letting out a bark.
“I’m not going to hurt you,” I said slowly, with my hands raised.
Even though it looked like it could maul me to death, I still had to show it that I wasn’t going to be a threat to it.
It lowered its head, eyes locked on me. Its growl deepened, vibrating through its chest, then suddenly it sprang off.
I didn’t need to be told twice.
I turned on my heels and ran, screaming at the top of my lungs.
“HELP!!!”
I didn’t care about escaping, I didn’t care about running away.
I just wanted to survive. Even if it meant waking up everyone in the building.
Then so be it.
“f**k! Someone help me! Your peanut butter wants to turn me into a sandwich.”
I let out a shrill scream as I ran, trying to make it back to the house on time.
But the faster I ran, the closer he seemed to get.
I had made it to the staircase when I tripped over, scrapping my palm ahain t thr granite floor.
“Ah f**k,”
The moment I turned around, peanut butter had launched itself towards me…
