As expected, the twins Maya and Anton rushed to my bedroom at bedtime. This time, they were ready with their pillows and blankets.
“Nathalie,” Maya called as she crawled to the bed and sat beside me. “Why didn’t you eat dinner?”
“She didn’t want to see Daddy,” Anton answered for me.
I widened my eyes at him, but glad he answered for me because it would be terrible if I lied to her.
“It happens,” Sophie chuckled. “Whenever Dad scolds me, I also don’t want to join him for dinner.”
“I wanna go home. This place is scary, Nathalie,” Maya said, her lips quivering as she was about to cry.
“What should you do so that you won’t get scared?” I asked, kissing the top of her head.
“Pray...” She answered, and when I nodded, she knelt. Her sisters did not join her, but they kept quiet.
