“Do you know what they’re saying about you, Eli?” Lina’s voice was soft but sharp, like the edge of a blade. I stopped in my tracks, my heart thudding against my ribcage. She was leaning casually against the packhouse doorway, her dark eyes gleaming with something that made my stomach churn. “What are you talking about, Lina?” I asked, keeping my tone steady, though I felt anything but calm. She smirked, pushing off the frame and sauntering toward me. “Rumors travel fast around here. Some say you’re the next great leader of the Crescent Moon Pack. Others think you’re just a pawn being moved around the board.” Her words hit a nerve, but I didn’t flinch. “And what do you think?” “Oh, I don’t think,” she said, her smile widening. “I know. You’re in over your head, Eli. Always have been.”
