CHAPTER TWO

The sunlight hit Sofi’s face, making her slowly open her eyes. Her head was pounding. Her body felt heavy. “…shit…” she whispered, sitting up slowly. Everything felt blurry—until flashes of last night came rushing back. The beach. The waves. That guy… …and the kiss. Her heart skipped. “Sino yun…?” bulong niya, hawak ang ulo. She tried to remember his face—and she did. Sharp features. Clean jawline. Those eyes. “Grabe…” she muttered. “Ang gwapo…” But then— Her expression slowly changed. Something felt… off. She placed a hand on her stomach, frowning. “Wait…” “SIS, hindi ako okay.” Aiah almost dropped her phone as Sofi barged into her room, looking pale and stressed. “Sis? Anong nangyari sayo?” Aiah asked, rushing toward her. Sofi sat down, hands shaking. “May nakilala akong guy kagabi…” Aiah blinked. “…Okay? That’s new.” “Hindi, sis… hindi mo gets.” She looked at her, eyes full of panic. “Something happened.” Silence filled the room. “…What do you mean something?” Aiah asked slowly. Sofi swallowed hard. “I think… may nangyari sa amin.” Aiah’s eyes widened. “WAIT—WHAT?!” The test sat on the table. Two lines. Clear. Unmistakable. Both of them stared at it like it was going to change. But it didn’t. “Sis…” Aiah whispered. Sofi felt her chest tighten. “…buntis ako.” Silence. Then— “WHAT THE ACTUAL—” Aiah covered her mouth, pacing around. “Sofi, hindi ‘to joke!” “I KNOW!” Sofi cried, tears forming. “Hindi ko rin alam paano nangyari!” Her hands trembled. “One night, sis… one stupid night…” “You’re WHAT?!” Her mother’s voice echoed through the house. Sofi stood in the living room, eyes red, hands clenched. “Ma… buntis ako…” Her father’s face darkened. “Sinong ama?” Sofi stayed quiet. “Si James ba ‘yan?” her mother asked. “…Hindi po.” Silence. Then anger. “Hindi?!” her father snapped. “Kaya ka iniwan?! Dahil nag-cheat ka?!” “HINDI PO!” Sofi cried. “Hindi ako nag-cheat!” “Then who?!” She couldn’t answer. Because she didn’t even know his full name. Her mother shook her head in disappointment. “Pinahiya mo kami, Sofi…” Those words broke her. Minutes later— They left. And Sofi was alone. Crying. Again. “Sis…” Sofi sat on Aiah’s bed, hugging a pillow tightly. “Wala na akong pupuntahan…” Aiah sat beside her, wrapping an arm around her. “Meron,” she said softly. “Nandito ako.” Sofi broke down. “Hindi ko alam gagawin ko…” Aiah stayed quiet for a moment… thinking. Then— “Hanapin natin siya.” Sofi looked at her. “…What?” “Yung guy kagabi,” Aiah said firmly. “Siya ang ama, diba?” Sofi hesitated… then nodded slowly. “Then hanapin natin.” The building stood tall—glass, steel, intimidating. “Sis…” Sofi whispered. “Sigurado ka ba dito?” Aiah looked up. “According sa napagtanungan ko… dito siya nagwo-work.” “Hindi ‘to work, sis…” Sofi muttered. “…parang empire.” They walked toward the entrance— “Miss, sorry. Employees only.” The guard blocked their way. “Kuya, may kailangan lang akong kausapin—” Sofi tried. “Hindi pwede, miss.” Aiah stepped in. “Important ‘to!” “Hindi—” A sleek black luxury car stopped in front of the building. Everyone turned. The door opened. And then— He stepped out. Kyzer. Perfect suit. Confident stance. Cold expression. “…Siya…” Sofi whispered. Her heart started racing. “SIS, siya yun!” Aiah whispered back. “Sis—wait—” But Sofi already stepped forward. “HEY!” she called. No response. He kept walking. Her chest tightened. And then— “BUNTIS AKO!” The words echoed. Everything froze. Heads turned. Silence. Kyzer stopped walking. Slowly… he turned around. Their eyes met. Recognition flashed in his eyes. Then—nothing. He walked toward her, calm… too calm. “Babae,” he said coldly, “do you even know what you’re saying?” Sofi felt hurt—but stood her ground. “I’m serious.” Aiah stepped forward. “Hoy, attitude ka ah—” “Stay out of this,” Kyzer cut in. “Excuse me?!” Aiah snapped. “Enough,” Kyzer said, clearly irritated. He looked at Sofi again. “…Sa loob tayo mag-usap.” The office was massive. Elegant. Expensive. Sofi felt small. Aiah stayed beside her. Then— A woman entered. Graceful. Elegant. Kyzer’s mother. She observed Sofi carefully. “I assume this is another one of those situations?” she said calmly. Sofi frowned. “Hindi po ako nagsisinungaling.” The woman didn’t react immediately. “I’ve seen many girls claim things like this,” she said. “I’m not one of them,” Sofi answered, voice shaking but firm. Kyzer crossed his arms. “Then explain.” Sofi took a deep breath. “…Ikaw lang ang nakasama ko,” she said, looking straight at him. “At… wala pang ibang lalaki bago ‘yon.” Silence filled the room. Kyzer’s expression darkened slightly. Then— “Leave us.” Aiah blinked. “Sis—” “It’s okay,” Sofi whispered. Kyzer’s mother nodded and walked out. Aiah hesitated… then followed. The door closed. Now— It was just the two of them. Sofi… and Kyzer. Face to face. With a truth that could change everything.
