At The Garden
Alexander's mother touched a nearby wild rose. "Gem, what flower do you like best?" she asked, smiling.
I stared, shocked by the question. "You don't have one you like?" she asked, surprised.
"I love a variety of flowers; I don't know which to pick," I said.
"You know, I've never thought about it, but since you brought it up, I'll try," I added.
Alexander's mother smiled. "Sure, dear." She touched my hand.
"I heard you're an orphan," she said, her expression sympathetic.
My mood shifted instantly. "We were thrown out by thugs claiming our parents were in debt," I began.
My story poured out:
"My brother, the eldest, became a gangster to protect me but was killed. My sister was r***d, gave birth, and disappeared. I was left to care for her child at twelve. I stole to survive, but got into trouble at fifteen.
"A lady, a drug dealer, took us in. She taught me to fight and use guns. By sixteen, I assassinated a man who claimed our property.
"I killed my madam, took over her business, and avenged my family's death. But I couldn't kill the gangster who killed my brother.
"Years later, I had children, but they died. I had twins, and the boy survived. The father, however, was my brother's killer. I killed him."
Alexander's mother stared at me, astonished.
"When did you become an orphan?" she asked.
I remained silent.
"It's okay if you don't want to talk about it," she said.
She held my hands. "I know you don't love Alexander, but I hope you see the good in him. He may have a dangerous past, but please give him a chance."
Tears filled her eyes.
I swallowed hard. "I'll try my best," I said.
Alexander's mother smiled, rubbing her head on my hands. "I'll believe in you."
In Alexander Room
I sat in my room when Gem walked in without knocking. Her audacity surprised me.
She carried a tray, revealing a fruit salad as she closed the door. "I can see you're shocked," she said, approaching me.
I stared, amazed. Was she ready to make amends?
"I just brought you fruits," Gem said, setting the tray on a stool.
"Drop it here," I gestured to the bed.
Instead, she placed the tray on the stool. "Eat up! You might need it."
I felt intrigued. "What's this about?"
"Nothing," Gem replied, turning to leave.
I stood, blocking her path. "Do you have a change of mind?"
"No," she said firmly.
Our eyes locked, and I was lost in their beauty. "You have beautiful eyes."
Gem's expression softened slightly. "You told me I had a great body; I took that as a compliment. Now, beautiful eyes?"
Her tone hinted at a hidden message.
"More than beautiful," I whispered, my gaze intensifying.
Gem's cheeks flushed, but she maintained her composure. "I'm not ready, Alexander."
Her words were clear, but her eyes betrayed a glimmer of uncertainty.
"Take it as a compliment," He said, smiling.
Gem turned to leave. "If you don't mind, I'll take my leave."
"Give me a chance," He asked.
"A chance at what?" she replied.
Our eyes locked. "You know what I want."
"I'm not God," Gem said, her eyes sparkling.
I drew her close. "No, but I think you know."
"Yes, I do," Gem whispered.
He lowered his head to mine, and our lips met.
I had changed my mind. To get what I wanted, I needed to make Alexander trust me.
His lips touched mine, and I reciprocated.
"Damn, she's good," I thought.
Gem's hands wrapped around my neck, her tongue dancing with mine.
She nibbled on my lips, then held my head.
Our eyes met.
"I'll take my leave," Gem said.
She walked away.
"Damn, she's talented," I thought. "Not beautiful, but kind of talented all round."
"I need to know her more now."
But doubt crept in.
"What if she's playing me?" Alexander asked hisself
As soon as I left Alexander's room, I headed straight to my own. "I need to be careful," I warned myself.
I made a brief call inside the wardrobe in my room afterwards I headed for the passage.
"I can't believe Alexander has fallen for me. What exactly does he see in me?"
A nagging thought crept in. "What if he knows my mission and is pretending?"
I shook off the doubt. "Whatever! I must achieve my goals. If one plan fails, I'll transfer half the payment back. But first, I need to find the safe in this house.........
"Where is she?" I wondered, walking through the passage.
Suddenly, a voice interrupted my thoughts. "Who are you?"
I turned to face a woman, approximately 170cm tall, slim, with graceful steps. Her baggy gown concealed her figure, but her overall shape hinted at attractiveness.
"Are you Gem?" she asked , unsure.
"Yes I am" I replied
Who are you?" I asked this time closer.
"I'm a weekly cleaner," she replied.
She nodded, scanning our surroundings.
"Where is it?" I asked, stretching out my hand
She stared at me
"Give it to me," I demanded and she handed it to me immediately.
"2442," she said, walking off and so did I.
As I entered my room, I called the woman claiming to be Alexander's aunt. She picked up immediately.
"Have you seen it? Is the deadline met?" she asked.
"Yes, I have," I replied.
"Okay, that's great," she said, sounding assured.
"What about the CCTV footage?" I asked.
"It's been taken care of," she replied with a chuckle.
"Okay, I'll hang up," I said and immediately ended the call.
I input the code "2442" on the smartwatch, and a red light blinked. I turned on the earpod.
"Gem, are you there?" Alexander's aunt's voice came through.
I stared at my phone, confused – it showed no connection to the watch.
"This is a smartwatch and earpod; you can't see the person on the other end, but you can hear them," she said
"Are you trailing me now?" I asked, annoyed.
"No, deadline, no! How can I do such?" she replied.
"Let me warn you," I said, standing up from the bed. "Never think you can control me. I'll call you when I have something to report. Your job is to wait."
"But I've been waiting for so long now," she countered.
"Long, you say?" I replied. "This is my third day in this house, and tonight will be my fourth night. All I need is patience. Otherwise, I promise you, this job will be done by you.
Deadline, don't be full of yourself. That guy is dangerous, cunning, and calm to a large degree. No one has deceived him before she said sounding caring
Whatever, drop the act; it's not like you care about me anyway."
"My job, I will do it without flaw. Do you know why I'm called Deadline?" I asked, but she remained silent.
"I guess you know, so please excuse me, and wait for my call," I said, pressing the power button on the earpod.
Hours Later
I had been wanting to visit her room but resisted the urge. When my door opened without a knock, I thought it was her. Instead, I saw my mom.
"Mom!" I called, surprised.
"You weren't expecting me," she said, smiling.
"Not really," I replied, standing up.
I stared at her personal assistant, who bowed.
"Don't give her that look, son," my mom said. "I told her I wanted to see my son and give a surprise."
"I wanted to give you a surprise, don't make an issue out of nowhere," she added.
"I stared at her, suspicious. "You're spying on me, aren't you?"
"Of course not, son. Why would I?" she asked seriously.
Just then, the door opened from behind, and we all stared.
I stared at Gem in surprise; the butler had been mistaken when he said she entered my room without knocking.
"Good day, Ma'am," Gem said, bowing.
Gem stared at me, surprised, but maintained her composure I. could sense it
"Gem was scrubbing his tub when the bathroom door opened, and turning she saw Alexander mom and her personal assistant. She smiled and his mother smiled back with a nod. Then she closed thebdoor without saying anything and I resumed what I was doing
I was done with the tub cleaning when so on stepping out I trip and before I knew it Alex rushed in.
"What happened?" Alex asked.
"Do I seem okay?" I replied, annoyed.
Alex stared, and I could sense his longing.
"You won't help me up?" I asked, testing him.
He stretched out his hand, and I took it, pretending to stand. Instead, I kicked his leg and threw his hand away.
Alex smiled, surprised.
"Why are you smiling?" I asked.
"Am I?" he replied, touching his face.
"You're not my ideal lady," Alex said, looking at me.
"Fallen? Have I fallen?" he asked.
"Ask yourself that," I replied.
"Okay, be fast; I have a place to be this evening," Alex said.
I ignored him and continued.
After Alex's bath, I rested in my room but soon dozed off. Waking up to strange noises, I checked the window and saw Alex holding his stomach on the ground.
I considered rushing downstairs but hesitated.
"What if he finds out?"
Instead, I used my window.
