Chapter 4

Derek’s question still lingered between us, and I felt my heart hammering as his dark eyes studied me, setting my skin aflame. “What you were doing earlier?” I echoed, my voice husky with longing. He nodded, leaning over the fortress of pillows until I caught the scent of his cologne mingled with raw masculinity. “You were so beautiful touching yourself. I want to finish what you started.” Heat surged through me—no use pretending he hadn’t seen exactly what I’d been doing. His words ignited something wild inside. “I don’t usually…,” I whispered. “Usually what?” “Sleep with someone I just met.” A flicker of hunger passed over his face. “Then let me give you a reason to break your rule.” He was right. I was tired of playing it safe—what had that ever gotten me? Ryan probably still had me forgotten by now. “Okay,” I exhaled. With gentle intent, he swept the pillows aside. “Consider your Great Wall conquered.” His hand landed on my cheek, warm and sure. “You sure, Anna?” I leaned in and pressed my lips to his instead of answering. His mouth was firm…demanding. He tasted of spice and sin. When his tongue brushed my lower lip, I parted with a soft moan, and he groaned back. His fingers tangled in my hair and he pulled me closer. I gripped his shoulders, desperate for more. “These are in the way,” I said , gasping for air as threw the pillows aside. He shifted, baring my back to his gaze. His shirt was thin, every ridge of muscle pressing against me. His mouth moved to my neck, finding that nerve that made me arch. He grazed my neck with his teeth and had me trembling. “Derek,” I breathed, as if his name were a prayer. He paused, voice husky. “I love the way you say my name. Say it again.” “Derek.” The name spilled out breathlessly as his hands pulled my bra straps down, thumbs brushing over my n*****s that stiffened at his touch. Our eyes met, his pupils were dark. “I want to see all of you.” My fingers fumbled the clasp, and I let the lace drop. His sharp inhale filled me with power. He leaned closer and took my n****e into his mouth, pleasure shooting straight to my core. I cried out, digging my fingers through his hair, holding him closer as his tongue and teeth worked me over. “Your turn,” I gasped, tugging at his shirt. He lifted me effortlessly; I wrapped my legs around his waist, pressing him even deeper against me. We groaned together as he kissed me hungrily before laying me on the rose-petal–strewed bed. He paused above me, that hungry look in his eyes making me clench in anticipation. “You’re overdressed,” I teased, reaching for his belt. “Let me touch you first.” His fingers hooked under my legs, pulling down my panties until I was bare beneath him. He paused, drinking me in. “So beautiful,” he murmured, kissing my thighs slowly. “And so ready for me.” His fingertip found my p***y, and I arched off the bed with a cry. He smiled wickedly, then licked his fingers. Stars exploded behind my eyelids as he lavished attention on me. “Derek, please,” I rasped. “Tell me what you want.” “You,” I gasped. “I want you inside me.” He rose, shedding the last of his clothes, revealing a form that took my breath away. He settled between my thighs, pressing himself to me, then paused. “Last chance to change your mind.” “Never.” I lifted my hips, offering myself. He slid in slowly; we both moaned in ecstasy. He was still for a moment, letting me adjust, then began to move. “More,” I whispered, legs locked around him. We moved together in a rhythm that left me light-headed, every thrust worshipping my body, pushing me to heights I never knew. A ticklish spot made me giggle, and he bent lower, nipping my earlobe. “Something funny?” he murmured. “You,” I panted. “This whole night.” He grinned warmly. “Just getting started, sweetheart.” He captured my lips in another kiss, and I melted, lost in the sense of being claimed. Hours later, we lay tangled, sweat cooling on our skin as he traced lazy patterns on my back. I listened to his heartbeat slow beneath my cheek. “That was…” I began, but words failed me. “Amazing,” he finished softly. “You’re amazing, Anna.” For the first time since Ryan’s house, I felt whole, as if Derek’s hands, mouth, and body had stitched me back together. “Thank you,” I whispered. “For what?” “For reminding me what it feels like to be desired.” He drew me close, kissing the top of my head. “Sleep now.” When dawn filtered through the curtains, he was still asleep, vulnerability softening his features. Reality crashed in, and I needed space to sort through everything. I eased out of bed, dressed quietly to avoid him waking up. I picked up the book and pen on the dressing mirror and began to write; Derek. Last night was incredible and exactly what I needed. I’m not ready for anything complicated, but if you’d like to talk or continue, my number is below. Thanks again – Anna I left the note by his phone, just where he would see it. I gathered my things, and slipped out before he woke. The elevator ride down felt endless. In the lobby, only the night clerk glanced up as I walked out the tall glass doors. Outside, the morning air was crisp and sweet. I took deep breaths, waiting for my ride and bracing myself for whatever came next in this changed life.
