My mind was made up. I wasn’t staying in the palace anymore.
What was the essence of luxury and gifts when there is no joy? I had to leave. I couldn’t stay back any longer.
Quickly, I headed back to my room. I had to devise a means to escape. I had to plan things out.
Just as I got into the room, I heard my stomach grumble. I was hungry.
Well, if I needed to run away, then I had to garner and gather as much food as I can so I can have the strength to run away.
After all, good food can give me strength. Left with no choice, I dashed back downstairs. I had to get my food.
“Good riddance to bad rubbish” I could hear Donald say. Perhaps, informing his mother.
“Well, I….”
I hurriedly grabbed my food from the table, scornfully looking at Donald. His mother was quiet.
Just like she had always been. You could barely hear her say a word.
Ever since Father married her, I could count the numbers of times she said a word. In my presence though.
I rushed back to my room and placed my food on the table. My blood was boiling. Anger was visible all over me.
I wasn’t going to let that deter me anyway. All that mattered was my escape plan.
I had to think of a perfect escape plan. I hurriedly consumed my food without thinking.
Even while I was eating, my mind wandered far away. I began to think of how I was going to escape.
Going during the day would have been easier as there were usually lesser guards around my room by morning or afternoon but I could easily be seen.
There were more guards at night but I could leave and still hide without being seen.
I was torn between the two decisions. I didn’t want to see any of the suitors that would be coming to my hand but if I leave before they arrive, Father would be suspicious and he was going to find me and bring me back.
If I was able to leave by nighttime after the guests have gone.
Then the chances are high that I would have traveled very far before Father discovers I left.
Nighttime would be a better option then. I prayed silently for help to come and for my escape to be very easy and smooth.
Either way, I had to take some things along with me. I walked to my wardrobe to get myself prepared.
Even though it was still morning, I didn’t want to take any chances that would make me miss tonight’s journey.
Just then, a knock was placed on my door. My heart skipped a beat as several thoughts ran through my mind.
Slowly, I proceeded towards my door.
“Who is there?” I questioned, hoping it was not Donald. Thank goodness. It was one of the maids.
“Good morning, my Princess” She bowed. “There has been harvest for the stores.
The store manager, Sam, has requested your presence for the supervision of the allocations of grains and vegetables to the villagers and also to document the income.
Afterward, we are about to begin to prepare lunch.
Also, we would soon begin to prepare for dinner as his Highness informed us that distinguished princes coming to visit today. “ She announced.
I sighed. Every day of my life, every minute of my life was saddled with responsibility.
I had to think of a way to squeeze my plan because, with all the tasks listed before me, it would be quite impossible to leave.
Documenting the proceeds and harvest would take up the whole morning and even a part of the afternoon.
Afterward, I would be going to supervise lunch as well as dinner for my proposed suitors.
Afterward, I was going to have to be present when they all arrived. I would be very exhausted after all that.
Still, I didn’t lose any hope. I hoped I would still be able to leave.
“Alright, thank you. I will join you soon” I nodded at her.
In response, she bowed before walking back out. I picked up my crown which I had initially dropped and wore it again. I walked back outside and headed to the store.
As expected, several maids and guards greeted me with many gossiping about me.
Of course, the news had traveled far and near. Everyone was aware I was getting sold to marriage soon.
All that occupied my mind that very minute was an escape route.
I looked at every corner of the palace, trying to check for an easier escape route but everywhere seemed too tight.
I tried to focus as I walked into the store. Everyone bowed to greet me.
Shockingly, documentation was already going on. Who dared to do that? Father could not do that.
“Hello, big sister. “ A devilish smile formed on Donald's face.
I should have known he would do anything to spite me.
I raised my brows as I wondered what he was doing there and who gave him the right and authority to take such decisions without my approval.
“Oh, I figured out that you were going to be very busy. I mean extremely busy so I decided to help you out.”
“Busy?” I smirked. If he ‘busy’, meant cooking then he was wrong because that was not the first time I handled everything together.
It was a daily routine for me! I crossed my arms waiting for a more valid explanation.
“Today, you are going to have to prepare dinner for your ‘proposed suitors'” He smirked. “I heard princes of noble kingdoms would be coming. Make us proud and ensure dinner is good” He patted my shoulder.
Immediately, I pushed his hands off my shoulder.
“How dare you!” I grabbed his cloak. “Who permitted you to do this? Who asked you to supervise the arrangement?! Who…”
"I did".
A feminine voice interrupted us. I turned to look at who it was.
Queen Mother?
