The sound of men and women grunting and heaving as they spared and trained with different objects filled the land expanse, sectioned out for training in the capital of the southern kingdom.
The Lycans preferred outdoor training, as it gives them enough space to incorporate other training activities, but mostly the Lycans in the capital trained on this vast land.
Although rumors about the kingdom have it that they discriminate against their females, who are mostly non-dominant Lycans with no specific rank title. Only a few of the female Lycan in the kingdom were Alphas and are non-dominant Alphas who can only be found amongst noble blood in the kingdom.
"Your Majesty." King Maxton released his hold on his opponent and he turned to see his right-hand man, Alpha Callan, standing by the trees, with his hands behind his back.
Without uttering a word, Maxton leaves his opponent, picks up his shirt from the bench and walks over to his right-hand man.
"Anything I can help you with Callan?" Maxton asked as they walked the bushy path back to the palace.
"Reports came in from the emissaries sent to the northern kingdom." Callan informed.
"And what should I be expecting?" Maxton asked, stopping halfway through their walk back to the palace and he faced his second in command with hands crossed over his broad muscular chest.
"They've received the letter, although there is no specific response from them whether they agree, but the king said to give him a few days to think about it." Callan replied, and Maxton nodded his head.
"How long ago was this?" Maxton inquired as they continued on their walk.
"Three days ago, your majesty." Callan bowed at his response, while pulling the door to the palace open for the king. Unlike many other palaces, the Lycan King palace had no fence to them, having fences built was a barricade and an unnecessary waste of time. Lycans would tell you they don't need fences for protection, because the fences don't protect you and as king it only prevents your people from you.
However, instead of fences they had Balsa trees built around the land expanse of the palace, and on these trees were stationed guards who took turns guarding the palace.
"Callan, what have I told you about formalities when we are alone?" King Maxton asked as they stepped inside the palace, following the wide passage to his royal quarters.
"Your majesty, we are not alone at the moment, there are palace workers everywhere." Callan defended, and Maxton glared at him.
"And how are they important to this? The only ones you should worry about using formality before are the entitled nobles and, of course, elders of the council who make an issue out of everything." Maxton says, walking into the large kitchen in his quarter and he grabbed a drink for himself.
"Blame me not, sometimes dealing with you can be so difficult and I lose myself in the role of being your second in command that most times I forget you are my best friend. Anyway, what do you intend to do about the northern king?" Callan asked, and Maxton dropped his glass.
"We are friends, not best friends, Callan." Maxton replied, and Callan shook his head.
"I am the only friend you've had for ages, seeing how long we've been friends and the loyalty in our friendship, we are best friends and not just friends." Callan explained, knowing King Maxton would ask what is the difference between both terms.
"Callan, it is called friends, and I am the only friend you have because no one wanted you as friends when we were young, the same goes for me, but in my case I am the one who doesn't want any other friends. You make me talk too much, can we talk about the kingdom pressing issues?" King Maxton said and Callan bopped his head.
"I already asked what your intentions are on this matter, do we wait for the northern king's response or what do you plan to do?" Callan inquired and Maxton stared into the distance, contemplating the choice before him and his next action.
"If we give him time like he's requested, he will keep stalling until the offer becomes of less importance. It's better that I take control of the situation now that I still can, we don't know what he is planning and we cannot sit around for him to act first."
"What do you have in mind?" Callan questioned, seeing the serious look on Maxton's face.
"Prepare my royal envoy and send a message to him that the Southern King will visit his kingdom. I would like to see my bride." Maxton announced, in a clipped tone and Callan looked at the Lycan in shock.
"Your Majesty, shouldn't we wait for his response first?" Callan questions, and Maxton shakes his head.
"We shouldn't give him the time to think he has a choice, since he proposed the treaty, he might think that way, and since he wouldn't expect me to visit. The message stating my visit would throw him off guard, which might benefit us." Maxton replied and Callan nodded.
"I would get right to it then, also what should I prepare as a gift for the princess?" Callan asked, and Maxton frowned.
"Why is that a necessity?" Maxton questioned, and Callan sighed in disappointment.
"It's courtesy, she is your bride and it wouldn't speak well if you go to her empty-handed." Callan explained, and Maxton scoffed.
"Then get her the best flowers in the kingdom,” Maxton answered in a dismissive tone.
"Just flowers?"
Maxton looked away from the batter he was mixing in confusion at his friend's question.
"Isn't that what women like, flowers? Oh and chocolates," Maxton responded and Callan had to fight back the inert urge he had to smack the King's head.
"Even if you've never been in any relationship, you should at least have common sense and know that not all women fancy flowers and chocolates. The princess might have an interest in other things." Callan reprimanded, and Maxton let out a low growl.
"Are you insulting me?" Maxton bites and Callan raises his hands in surrender. "That was not intended as an insult, your majesty, just pointing out facts. These are things you should know, given that you are getting married now, it's about that you have this simple knowledge about women."
Callan replied in his defence and Maxton snorted. "How should I know what the northern princess likes? when I haven't met her, just get her flowers and enough chocolates to last her for a year."
"Your Majesty, this is the reason you have people working for you, who can find a way to at least know what she might like. Anyway, as your best friend and right-hand man, I would do what is needed, but I think you should get one of your mistresses to teach you some common courtesy and things to know about women." Maxton throws the wooden spoon in his hand at Callan, who already suspected something like that from the Lycan, and he ducked, barely saving himself from getting hit in the eye.
"I do not have mistresses, one more insult from you and I'll chop your tongue." Maxton growled with a warning glare at his friend.
"Does weren't insults, agreed you don't have mistresses, I am talking about your occasional bed warmers." Callan replied, already taking calculative steps away from the kitchen, because he knows the next flying object might be a sharp object.
"Get out." Maxton commands, in a low voice.
"As you wish, Your Majesty." Callan responds with a bow, while walking backwards out of the kitchen.
"The stupid fuc.ker." Maxton cursed as he trashed the dough in anger and he stomped to his room, in a need of a calming bath.

~~DEONISIA~~
I shivered as I lay on the cold floor of the cellar, the mosquitoes, feasting on my blood, were no joke and I was tired of hitting my skin to get rid of them.
"Can I at least get a blanket or something, this place is ice cold." I called the guard outside my cell and he turned to me with a scoff.
"It's a cellar for a reason, omega, not an inn, and the King stated not to give you any special treatment, so suck it up." The guard snapped at me and I sighed.
How did I even get myself into this mess? Three days ago, I was at the recruit quarters, training as usual and along the way I had let my anger from the nights before get the better part of me, which resulted in me beating my sparring partner to a pulp.
Like wind, before our chief trainer could even say anything about what I had done, the palace guards marched in and they dragged me out on the king's order.
I've been locked here for the past three days, with no idea what I did. At first I thought it was a punishment for almost killing another recruit, but that can't be the case. At least our chief trainer would've said something, but the more I think about it, I wonder if it has anything to do with me attacking Prince Hadrian.
That is the only reason I think they would lock me up like this, with no words or visitation from the king, Prince Hadrian or even Goldie whom I call my friend.
If this has to do with the prince, shouldn't they at least ask why I attacked him and what he was doing in my room at that odd hour? I guess just like the Queen; the King has also changed and since I am a nobody, my opinion wouldn't exactly matter.
It just baffles me how fast people change and how drastic these changes can be. A few months ago, they treated me like their daughter. All these years of living in this palace, they've treated me like their own child. However, it only took Hadrian finding a female Alpha mate for them to change towards me and treat me as if I never really mattered to them.
"Here, use this." I raised my head up as the second guard handed me what seemed to be a bedsheet and I collected it from him with a grateful smile.
"What are you doing, didn't you hear the king's order?" The first guard I had asked for a blanket barked at the one who helped me.
"I heard the King's order, and I don't remember when he said we shouldn't give her any special treatment, he said to monitor her. Handing her a tattered bed sheet isn't a special treatment, stop acting like a piece of shit." The good guard snapped at the other and I watched as they argued back and forth.
"Erm, I can return the sheet if it's that much of a big deal." I voiced out, getting irritated with their argument because I would rather deal with the cold than live through the noise.
"Please keep it, don't mind this asshole, he is only projecting on you." I nod at the good guard statement,
"Thank you." I mumbled, and he smiled at him before turning to glare at his second, who stomped out of his post with a hiss.
"Don't mind him, he is my mate, and we had a disagreement hours before now."
"Oh... Sorry." I muttered, not knowing how to respond to the information I didn't ask for, but I am still grateful he helped me.
"Do you know when I would get out of here or why I am here?" The guard turned to me with a surprised look on his face.
"You don't know what you did?" He asked, and I shook my head. If I know, would I ask you?
"Okay, you didn't hear this from me, but it's been said that you committed an act of treason against the throne."
"What!!" I exclaimed in shock. "I did what?" Treason against who? I asked myself.
"What is going on here?" The second guard asked, walking back to his spot.
"Nothing." His mate replied, shutting down whatever questions I had while I tried to process how I was suddenly being charged with treason, whose throne did I try to take?
